Accidentally Deleted all files in my library - help!!

I kept getting the error message "Can't Move File to Library" so I thought I'd delete files to free up memory (and assumed they would still appear in ITunes). I completely lost all downloaded files and cannot locate them in my Trash. Is there anything I can do to restore these?! Please help - this represented many hours of downloads.
