I forgot to post on Friday that I finally tracked down the root cause of these issues (well, really the two root causes). One was a problem in our custom code in the installer that was, in fact, incorrectly creating a "limewire.props" directory, as many of you identified. That was the primary problem that was causing settings to be lost.

The other was a 10.2-specific issue. 10.1 had a bug when exiting any java application, and we included a workaround that fixed it. Unfortunately, the workaround broke things when Apple fixed the bug in 10.2. This created a condition where settings would not be saved some of the time. 2.7.6 fixed that issue, and 2.7.7 fixed the first issue I mentioned (barring any further complications of course!).

Thanks very much for everyone's help.

Is it best to uninstall older versions of Limewire i.e. those containing the Preferences problem or download 2.7.7 right on top of the old.

thanks,
nano

The installation of LimeWire 2.7.7 now remembers preferences from previously installed versions. [this is not related to the problems of loosing prefs. between sessions]. Thanks.

Now, if only LimeWire was faster and the interface was less cluttered (take a look at the number of borders inside the main window).

I just tried to download the latest version
(2.7.7) basic and discovered it's 2.7.6 on the download site at Gnutella even when choosing the 2.7.7 update at the top of the web site. The preferences bug seems to be fixed with 2.6.6 but now I can't open an mpeg into quicktime without the whole system slowing down and getting jerky....ARGH!

I've never had the problem of losing my settings on the currently installed version of LW Pro. But, I have always had the problem where the installation of the newest version wipes out the preferences I had set up. I just upgraded to version 2.7.9 and still had to re-enter all my settings via the wizard and the preferences. I'd like to see a version that does not overwrite existing preferences. Granted, it's not as bad as the problem you people experienced, but it's still mildly annoying.

Nope. The installation of LimeWire 2.7.7 (or higher) finally does remember preferences from previously installed versions.

If anyone is still experiencing issues with LW on OS X, try LW 2.7.13, which I released earlier today. It addresses several issues that users have experienced with LimeWire behaving erratically.

Thanks for everyone's help.
