Adding mp3 from iTunes

I am trying to add the various mp3 files from iTunes to the shared folder in Limewire.

1) Tried copying mp3 files into the shared folder. Limewire showed them all as incomplete.

2) Tried adding the Music folder (where iTunes keeps its files) as a shared folder. No Joy. Cannot find the command. Instructions say select "Add Folder" under the "File" menu but all I have is "Connect" and "Disconnect" under the "File" menu - and I am in the "Library" tab.

3) Ditto for "Tools" menu - all I have is "Statistics".

How can I share the files I have from iTunes to Limewire?

Thanks,

James

I too would like to share my I-tunes. I would also like to move my shared file from the library to I-tunes so I can burn a CD. Any suggestions?

It is not pretty, but I have worked out the following work around:

1) Using the Finder "Find..." menu, do a search for all .mp3 files in the iTunes folder.

2) Select all the resulting matches (should be all the mp3 files you have in iTunes...).

3) Drag the selected files to another disk - this pretty much means you need a partition, second disk drive, file server, whatever.

4) in the Finder, re-select all the files you just copied and move them into the Shared Folder (whatever is selected in LimeWire as the shared folder).

5) Open Limewire and click on the Library tab. The files all show in red until Limewire goes through and 'loads' the files.

Problems: It would be easier to just "copy" the files from the "Find..." search results, but when I did this, Limewire would not accept them (? no idea why). If you copy drag the files from the search results, it will move the files, not make a copy of them (i.e. no more mp3 files in iTunes...).

An option I did not try: I found in the "Preferences" option (under the "Limewire" menu) the "Share" option. You could, in theory, simply select the iTunes folder, or even the entire "Music" folder and make it a second shared folder. This would be the most elegant solution but I had already fixed my problem by the time I found the &%%$* place to add shared folders (a smarter man would have tried this first...).

Hope it works for you - please let me know!

I am sharing my entire Itunes music folder and it works like a champ. To do this simply go to to preferences and click on sharing.... there you will see the "Add" button and select the music folder.

Simply go into the Limewire preference menu, then go to sharing. In this area click add....then simply choose which folders you want to add the your library. Click apply and then OK...done

adding mp3s in shared folder to Itunes

This is very simple as well and I do this quite often. Put the MP3's you want to add to Itunes into a folder (I have a folder called mp3 inside my shared folder. Open Itunes under the file menu choose "add to library" select your folder containing the mp3s and click ok. This will add the songs. You might want to sort your Itunes library by date added so that you can see your new recruits. I find that quite often I need to update the ID3 tag info so that it is listed in my library the way I want it.

One other hint... if you have choosen to have Itunes copy over your mp3's into the library folder automatically and you are sharing your itunes library folder then you can delete the mp3s from the "shared" folder once you are done since you don't need two copies of the mp3s. Hope this helps....
