Default LimeWire told me not to use 2.8.5

Just in case you missed the other post, or if it hasn't happened to you yet, here's the quick deal.
LimeWire brings up a window telling you of an internal error, and asks that you copy the text in the tiny box and email it to their bug department. Minutes later, you get an automated response, like this:

-------------------------

This is an automated bugs@limewire.com email response.

Your submission to bugs@limewire.com indicated that you are using a buggy version of LimeWire that requires change. Please visit the LimeWire download page and switch to the current version. This may involve a rollback to version 2.7.13.
http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download

Thanks,

The LimeWire Team
--------------------------------
The problem with their advice is in that the link points to the free version of 2.8.4, and the pro version still points to 2.8.5.

The subject of the message states:

Please change to the current listed version of LimeWire.

Boy, that must have been some eggnog they were smoking at the Xmas party.

I wouldn't care too much for some automated response. If it's usable, use it.

It's probably just some unexpected error message that brings up that window. If LimeWire doesn't crash when it appears, ignore it.

Yes, it says it can probably recover from the error. But sometimes it did crash. Plus the problems with uploading and downloading are just not worth it for this version. Even though it's supposed to be moving chunklets of 97kb, often no data was being transferred. Just a lot of connecting and disconnecting.

Meanwhile, I downloaded version .671 of Acquisition. Version .67 used that weird 97kb method also, but .671 performs normal uploads and downloads, based on the size of the file.
Although I prefer the features and interface of LimeWire, this program performs much better, is very stable, and doesn't degrade the system performance anywhere near as much as LimeWire.

I'll use it until LimeWire comes back and gives us a stable release.

Well, I had that error message with a slightly earlier version, which lasted through reinstalls, but 2.8.5 has been fine for me, and judging by the fact that nearly half the uploaders I see are using it, fine for plenty of others.

Now if I could just get more downloads to start. I've got 52 files in my download list, and none of them will start downloading. I know I'm not looking for the most common items, but COME ON!

I find that the only way to get some of those obscure downloads is to keep doing searchs for the items. This way I will eventually find a host that will be available. Otherwise I find that the items sit in my queue retrying forever.

Oh, I do, I do. But many of them just come up with no listings at all on future searches, or else the same IP's as before. I had a bit more luck last night; perhaps there's more Gnutella users online on Friday nights than other times?
