Can't share, but would..(Force IP)

I'm running off a router. I have the router and computer IP addresses; which do I use in the Force IP preference panel? And where do I get the right port number? I can access files but no one can get mine...

The publicly-routable address, the one that other people can reach you with. This is the IP address on the router's outside/external interface, the IP address assigned to it by your access provider.

You need to configure your router to pass traffic on a specific port on to the computer running LimeWire. The method to configure this varies by router, check its documentation. To keep things simple use LimeWire's default port, 6667. Forward tcp/6667 and udp/6667 to your computer, leave the computer set to listen on 6667, and set the forced port to 6667.

You only need to use a different port if 6667 is already in use - for example, if you're already running LimeWire on another computer.

Others may be able to download your shared files if they send and you respond to push requests. Either way, your success with both downloading and uploading will improve if you set the firewall up properly.

are there any plans to implement automatic public ip address retrieval, like there is in BearShare? since i have a dynamic ip address and a router, i have to check my current ip address every time i open limewire. this would definitely help to limit the need for PUSH requests. i'm sure there are a lot of people who have their port open, but who don't have their correct IP forced.

I don't know if there are currently plans to do that but there are plans to hide the force IP option....

why?.. isn't it better to force the ip than to not? or is this no longer really necessary because of UltraPeers?

Forcing your IP is only useful if you set up your router to do port-forwarding. If you don't do that or if you do that incorrectly, forcing your IP will achieve nothing.

On the contrary, other clients may have difficulties to identify you as firewalled. They will try to connect to you directly and might see more failed downloads. - Especially other firewalled users will try to download from you although such a download attempt can never be successful.
