OS 9 to OS X takes away number of connections? I have updated to OS X, and hence installed LimeWire Pro for OS X. I have noticed some disturbing things. One, it seems I cannot have more than 3 connections to servers. I do not see the ability to allow more connections as there were in the OS 9 version at the bottom of the connections tab. In the OS 9 version I would and could maintain at least 8 connections. Why was this taken away from me? Do I have to use the OS 9 version via OS X to get this ability? That seems silly. I'm getting FAR less results per search due to this. I am frustrated as I payed for this, and would never have expected to have functions taken AWAY from me. Thank you for ANY info! :D |
The option to set the number of connections has been removed in version 2.9. It has nothing to do with the difference between the Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 clients. The developers feel that the network will eventually perform better for everyone if fewer farther-reaching queries are transmitted, as opposed to more short-reaching queries. Unfortunately, this requires a period of transition. If it really bothers you, download 2.8.6 for Mac OS X and run that in the interim. Old versions of LimeWire are archived at http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/ . Mark @version@/10.2.4 |
I wouldn't use version 2.8.6 anymore. Older LimeWire leafs (older than 2.9.x) will receive less search results from newer ultrapeers. In addition some of your queries are likely to be dropped completely by newer ultrapeers. |
