Its baaaccckkkk....sorry stief

The connection is falling apart again....when I sent the last part of that post, it had been holding for about 45 mins. When I trie to search for something, it found it...the usual...but alittle after I had started to d/l the song...it friggin failed. Just a refresh on the prefs and my system...
-Mac OSX 10.1.5

->110 files

-disabled ultrapeer

-forced IP...but I took off the IP number to test it again...neither work

-I have a router and a firewall...but I has NEVER caused a problem before.

-Two other comps have sharing programs on them and are still running

-I've used LW for AWHILE...and alittle after d/l the new version (which initially worked) it could not connect to any IP ad.

I can't think of anything else that could cause a problem.....BTW my files are runnable...any help would be.....helpful THANX

Instability

Hi

Well, the good news is that it's a lot worse on OS10.2.5. So, let's be constructive about your situation.

Don't use 2.9.8, drop back one or two upgrades (see other threads for the addresses of older versions).

This is a temporary fix because, sooner or later, the mainstream development of Limewire will start to actively discriminate against older versions but, for a while, you will find both the screen display and the system's performance to be more stable.

However, you cannot use LW passively. You must be highly active to maintain a connection once you have found one that works. Be prepared to kill and restart the download from the original download list (do not allow relevant lists to drop off your system by default). If rapidly repeated requests fail, leave the incomplete file in the window and re-search for the exact file name. This will sometimes reconnect you (and sometimes to additional hosts if the file name is reasonably generic). If you can get a reconnection, always try to browse the host. If this works, subsequent download requests can then be tried between the original, the re-searched and the browsed listings. Usually, one of the three will work to restart and then maintain the download until completion. However, this is a game requiring concentration — the longer you leave the "catch" the less likely you are to achieve reconnection.

Alternatively, use Acquisition until LW proper gets its act more together.

Good Idea....but

When I say connection I mean my connection to LImewire itself. I can even connect to the program. i start it and I get a connection for a few seconds. That fails then ever once in a while i get another but that only last for a few itself. i wonder if you have another answer for that problem....thanx

Sorry

I'm not sure what you mean by "my connection to Limewire itself". Limewire is one of the application packages through which to connect to the Gnutella network. If you mean that Limewire connects to Gnutella and then you have problems while downloading, the advice in my previous post is the correct course of action.

If you mean that there is something wrong with your copy of Limewire so that it is likely to crash (whether on its own or taking the OS with it as well) your only remedy short of switching to Acquisition, is to completely strip all the existing elements of Limewire out of your system using Finder, and then reinstall a newly downloaded version (whether you decide to download the current version or an earlier one is up to you).

And I have tried the reinstall method and compeletly cleaning it out and reinstalling

OK

After upgrading to OS10.2.4, I had to go through the clean-out and reinstall sequence four times to get a version that provided a stable platform from which to access Gnutella. It was only twice for OS10.2.5 but all stability vanished with Limewire 2.9.8 until I disabled the ultrapeer option. Even then, performance was so poor that I've turned to other things until 2.3 appears when I will try it again out of interest. But, for me, the fun has rather gone out of it.

Acquisition

As I said in my first post, the only real alternative is Acquisition. It uses the core of LW but, at present, has better outcomes. http://www.xlife.org/

I need one that works for OSX version 10.1.5. Acquisition only works for 10.2

Managed to get your connection problem Exaeon. Solved it by disconnecting the other machine that was running another gnutella client.
