Connection Problems....

Greetings all...I just downloaded Limewire and I cannot establish a connection...I am using OS X, on a new iBook, and I am using my school's Ethernet connection...I keep going to File and Connect but the light turns green for a whole like 10 seconds if I am lucky...What am I doing wrong?

Hi

You could be seeing the fallout from the action of the Recording Industry against four students (just settled with the students paying a varying amount between $12,000 and $17,500 each in damages). Because the Schools and Universities fear being caught up in the litigation, many have been denying their students access to Gnutella or lowering the general quality of service made available to P2P activities. If I am right, I regret to say that there will be nothing that you can do about it. As an experiment, why don't you try logging on to the net directly and see whether you get a connection to Gnutella.

Hmmm...it never occured to that the school's internet would actually be denying me access...I mean I know that if I downloaded directly from a computer at school it would deny me, but not if I was using my own computer...wouldn't I be the one liable and not the school? Oh well...It seems I am having no problem at home logging on but unfortunately I have a REALLY lousy connection (56k), so it would take me a millenium to download anything here....sucks....I'll try again tommorrow...only prob is every time I use the access in my school library it takes me like an hour just to connect through their ethernet...it's a freakin' nightmare!!! Thanks anyways...

Sorry

Unfortunately, both the person who breaks the law and the one who makes it possible can be liable to pay compensation to the one who suffers loss. So you break the law by downloading copyright material without payment and the school breaks the law by giving you access to an efficient network link. America is a most repressive country in the defence of the millions of dollars profit made by a few greedy corporations.
