Bogus sites abusing Limewire

I am finding an increasing number of "hits" on searches that turn out to be links to porn sites, and not what they purport to be (e.g. the song or program I am looking for via Limewire.) Does anyone know how to band these sites from the Gnutella network, altogether? Seems there's always a few jerks out there who muck up a good thing for a lot of good people. Thank you for any consideration of this request. Aloha.

Hi

The most common porn sites use standard formats that can be filtered out. Go to Preferences and enter !!!! and / and AWESOME into the filter sections and this should prevent most of the offenders from appearing in your search box. However, the key give-away is usally a low kb file size in comparison with other hits under the same title. Just do not try to download anything that looks suspicious. However, when I started out I innocently downloaded everything and never had any problems. The only reason I became aware of the problem was through the threads on this site. So, my experience as a Mac user is that most of these "traps" are designed to hit pc users.

Hello!

These spam files where not a problem in the past but since the introduction of 2.9.9 it has become a huge problem. That is because 2.9.9 and above are limiting the number of hits per search to a mere 100 and if some of them are spam/fake files then some good hits where lost and dropped at the UltraPeers gate. The solution is to highlight files from those hosts and click the Block Host button and the people sharing those files will become blocked and you will eventually almost get rid of the problem.

Msg of appreciation

Thank you David91 and Joakim Agren for excellent info. I'd added the suggestions to 'filters' and am running Limewire 2.9.11Pro but don't know where the "Block Host" button is! Pretty slow, huh? Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Hi again

As to blocking the host, I think you might find it by highlighting the line in the search box and then either by option or command click (sorry I can't offhand remember which), you should find a number of choices including block host. It's one of the "hidden" features "offered" by Limewire.

All smiles!

Hi David91,

I received a private email from Joakim Agren who told me to highlight the offending host, do a command/open apple + click the mouse, and a number of options will appear, to include "Block Host" . . works like a charm. You two have helped me tremendously in the past 24 hours and I am very, very grateful. Thank you (mahalo.) Aloha nui loa. (much love/respect to you.)
