need help burning cds

i am a new limewire user. i have been successful at downloading
mp3 files, however i am having problems with other file types.

when i try to burn a .dmg file by dragging it to the blank disk it
said it was copying the .dmg file and after finishing the copying, i
burned the disk. when i tried to use the disk i had just burned, i got
this message:

you have inserted a disk containing no value that mac osx can read,
to use the unreadable values click initialize, to continue with the
disk inserted click continue. (there is also an eject option)

can some one please explain what this means? thank you in advance!

It might be that you can't burn a dmg file, but that you have to burn the content of the dmg file.

I'm not sure what you mean? How do I burn the content of the .dmg file? Is there some special way to do this? I'm using disk copy to try to do this. My computer has a super drive. Please help!!!

Alright. A .dmg file is a disk image file. It is an image that acts like a mounted disk, and has information inside of it when you open it up. I'm saying that instead of trying to burn the "mounted disk" you should try burning what's inside the mounted disk.

Thank you Blackbird, but for fear of sounding like a total retard, do I how do I burn the image? I am pretty new to all of this and have only burned mp3's before. Do I do it the same way, or is there another technique I need to be using? Please help, I'm so frustrated with this! (And thanks again!)

You're not a retard.

O.K..

Open disc copy.

Disc copy is in applications/utilities... It comes with OSX

Go up to "File" then scroll down to "burn disc image"..

Should work..

Good luck..

Draging a disc image to the blank cd won't accomplish much.. :)

Thanks Space Monkey! When I tried your suggestion it told me the data on this image will not mount properly when burned to a disc (cancel). Did I do something wrong or is it just a bad file?
Thanks again for all the help I have received!!

I'm starting to think that the file might be corrupt.

I've never actually downloaded a .dmg on limewire.

How big is the file?

You should probably just stick to downloading mp3s and burning them in iTunes..

big sis July 9th, 2003 06:57 AM

Thanks Space Monkey. The file size is 47, 140 kb. I was beginning to think it must be a bad file, with all the problems it was giving me. I appreciate your help!

Um, have you tried double clicking the .dmg?

I'm sure you have, but I'm just curious. :)
