built in mp3 player doesn't work on v3.5.8

Ever since I updated to 3.5.8 (I already had Pro), the built in mp3 player doesn't work.
I'll add a song to the playlist, then highlight it, then click play, just like I would do before. But now, it doesn't do anything.

the preferences are set correctly for the player.
I have the "Use Limewire's Mp3 player" box checked.

It was a great convenience to have that player. I could check quickly to see if I have the right song, and if the quality is good without having to open itunes.

Can someone help?
thanks.

I am running OS 10.2.6
G4 eMac 256, 1gig/60gig HD

Alex--I thought most people preferred the iTunes support (thanks largely to Roger Kapsi's work). Maybe switching to the iTunes support, then back to the built-in player will rewrite the prefs.

You could also set the default player to LW for tunes with the Finder's Get Info.

limewire mp3 doesn't work

Hey Stief. Thanks for the reply.
I think you may be more advanced than me. I'm not sure I totally understood your reply.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "most people prefer iTunes support", nor do I know who Roger Kapsi is.

I don't need itunes support. My itunes works fine. The problem is that the Limewire player doesn't work anymore.

Wait. By "iTunes support", do you mean setting Limewire to use iTunes as a player for downloaded files?
Maybe that's what you were refering to when you said "most people prefer..." Well, I don't think that works either. I switched the "player" prefs in Limewire. Regardless of where I have that pref set, nothing happens when I click on a tune in LW.

I was trying to explain that it was convenient to be able to play newly downloaded files right out of the limewire library, without having to use another application. So often, I'll download a file, and the quality will be terrible regardless of what the listed quality was, or the file will be incomplete. I don't want to have to put the file in itunes just to play it, then find out that it's no good, and then have to remove it, and do it over again.

Anyway, enough with that. I don't think anyone cares why I liked that feature, or who prefers what. The fact of the matter is that that feature doesn't work anymore and I can use some advice.

You say that I can set the default player to LW with the Finer's get info? What do I have to "Get Info" on in order to do this? Do I have to "Get Info" on every single song file on my HD?

Thanks again. Excuse my ignorance. I'm new to this.

Hi Alex
re new to this--been there too, just about every week--the LimeWire project and OSX are developing so quickly it's tough to know is going on, but very interesting (and frustrating until you know to expect the unexpected).

Re the problem with your files: sorry about assuming you knew about the Mac Finder's "Get Info" command.
When you click on one of the .mp3's in your incomplete folder (or elsewhere) and use the "open with" options to set iTunes or LW as the app to open that file, there's also the option to "Change All" similar files. Hope that helps.

I see you saw Roger's post--good of him to volunteer time and expertise to write code that helps us, AND help us use it!

Cheers
