If you're a user having problems due to java (type "java -version" at a terminal prompt and it will say something about "HotSpot not at correct virtual address. Sharing disabled" on the first line), follow the instructions to fix java at topic "Discussions > Mac OS X > Mac OS X v10.3 Panther > Installation and Setup > Java 1.41 does not run after 10.3 upgrade" on the apple.com discussion boards. Specifically, go to a terminal prompt and type "sudo mv /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVMOld.framework" (BE CAREFUL! the only spaces in this command are after "sudo", "mv", and "...JavaVM.framework") and enter the root user password when prompted. Now reinstall Panther (only required base files and the BSD subsystem necessary) and Limewire (and the rest of your Java 1.4.1 apps) should work perfectly. If a Panther-broken-java was your problem in the first place, that is; there are apparently unrelated problems that other folks are having.

I believe the problem only occurs if you ran an upgrade to Panther. The Java package didn't update on its own, but there are ways to do it yourself. I had the problem and fixed it by using the script provided in the .sit file posted on this site: http://jqkserv.net/xplanehelp/viewar...jsp?kbid=10087

When I got to the part where you're supposed to type ./fixit.sh and then hit the enter key, I got an error saying that Java.pkg was a folder (meaning it couldn't remove it with the rm command). I went to my /Library/Receipts/ folder and deleted the Java.pkg file manually, then continued with the rest of the instructions provided in the .sit file. When I was done, I reinstalled LimeWire and I was good to go =)
