Limewire with OS 10.3.8 I had the same problems as most people, but with 10.3.8, Java 1.4.2 doesn't fix it, you'll need to download Java for Panther: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/java.html Follow Stief's instructions listed above for deleting Limewire, download and install the Java for Panther, then re-install Limewire. Fixed my problems, hope that helps. Ralph |

Make sure neither of your are firewalled!!! See: Direct Connect & make sure you both have incoming; see this test: Do this test after LW's been open at least 30 mins: Bug Report instructions & sample image If it's True then that's good, if it's false then somewhre there's a firewall. |

After the above, LW still fails to load Hi - I'm running OSX 10.3.8 with JavaPantherUpdate 1.4.1 and did a fresh install of Limewire 4.8.1 Basic per the above instructions. Can anyone figure out what's wrong from the crash report? BTW, I had an earlier version of LW Pro (4.0.5) which did the same thing, so I replaced it with the latest version of LW Basic thinking that might cure the problem. Still got bounce and gone syndrome. Could Apple's OSX security updates have anything to do with the problem? That's the only system change between LW working and not working that I can think of. I can't deciphor the report for you but can make some suggestions about probable fixes. Whenever there's a new apple update there's always an influx of these types of problems. It seems to be related to updating mac os over the net. 1. SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions 2. Try this Java here: icon bouncing in Dock (click on link) This requently fixes this problem. If not a combo update will normally do it. By the way if it says your Java is already up to date then double-click the harddrive icon, open the Library, open the Receipts folder, then find the file: Java142Update2.pkg, delete it and try again. eg image: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...159#post126159 |

"Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS" means the problem is outside LimeWire. So it's a java or an OS X problem, usuallly fixed by the safe boot first, or reinstalling java. The key information the coders need is the "Exception . . . " and then the details for the thread that crashed. I think. |

Still trying Thank you for your suggestions. So far, no luck. Following one of the poster's suggestions, I went back to an earlier version of Java (1.4.1) Since the problem occured with Java 1.4.2 ver.2. Below is the thread that crashed (from the crash log). As far as a conspiracy theory goes, how about the latest version of iTunes deliberately causing the problem to prevent free music downloads? Thank you for your kind assistance. |

Finally! After downloading the jum CVS build of LW and getting the same bounce and crash, I figured that my Java 1.4.1 installation might be incomplete, even though I had downloaded the installer from Apple's web site. So, I removed the version.plist file per the instructions below, and reinstalled Java. Finally, LW worked! --------------------- Repairing an Incomplete Java Installation: The problem can be corrected with a manual fix requiring an administrator-level account. From the Finder, navigate to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/ and open the folder. Move the version.plist file to the Trash. An authentication dialog may appear. Enter an administrator username and password. Confirm that the version.plist is no longer in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/. Download the complete Java package from Apple's web site (not a software update) Follow the instructions of the installer. --------------------- LW jum starts and runs OK, though it resists my efforts when I try closing the LW window. I can live with that.... My question now is, do I dare try to update to the 1.4.2 Update 2 version of Java, or should I just leave well enough alone? Thank you for all your help. |
