If this happens when Lw is not running, sounds like a G4 settings problem. Have you tried asking on the Apple discussion boards? http://discussions.info.apple.com/

LW can use a lot of processor power when running as an Ultrapeer, but cannot change the hardware or software settings that control the fan.
