Unhappy Pro Freezes while Verify/Saving

Mac OSX

I am using Pro, first the Current version.... now the new beta. BOTH have a problem that occurs when verifing or saving a file. The entire Limewire application freezes, requiring a FORCE QUIT.

I have noticed that even though the app seems to freeze, in the background it continues to download, verify, save. It just won't allow me to see the progress or make new searches or ANYTHING, until Force quit is performed.

Anyone else with this problem? Better yet, anyone with a solution to this problem?

Thanks.

There was a problem like this with Classic LW versions (see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=23077 ). Any chance, say the alias points to an old version, you are running the Classic version?

Might be worth searching for "limew" on your hard drive and seeing what shows up. In any case, cleaning out the old components and a fresh new install should help determine where the problem is.

Thanks for your info. After reading the thread you forwarded me to, I searched for the recommended file to be altered. I don't have the Limewire.lax file on my system. Perhaps this is strictly on Classic?

Before installing the new PRO version, I did a "clean" of the older version, so there is nothing of the older version left to interfere. (Note: the older version experienced the same problem, thus my desire to upgrade hoping I would leave the problem behind. No such luck.)

I have made a slight alteration based on other info that I found that has SLIGHTLY helped the situation. I have enabled the preference to automatically clear the completed downloads. These seems to keep the system from fatally freezing, however it still freezes for a period of time.

This is not the preferable solution, but seems to be holding me for now.

Any other posibilities????

The .lax file is the prefs file for OS9.

As for other suggestions--too many other possibilities! There something corrupt, but where! LW prefs? Java? OS?

First, you are entitled to Pro Support http://www.limewire.com/english/content/proform.shtml

Second, could you give more details about your setup? You can copy many of the details from LW Preferences->Bug Reports->Sample Bug Report--just omit the sample java crash details.

More info can be found by opening Console (in your Applications/Utilites folder) and trying to see what it says when you repeat the problem. If there is a java or OSX problem, it should show up there.

I'm assuming the problem is not with your LW install since you did a clean install (also deleting the preferences and cleaning out the incomplete folder?). If the problem is with the OSX setup, restarting the machine and holding down the shift key right after the startup tone (Safe Boot), then running the Disk Utility on your hard drive and repairing permissions are basic maintenance routines. Then run Software Update from the Apple Menu->OSX Preferences.

I had similar problems and someone told me to turn off iTunes support and disable ultrapeer.

I did this and it helped massively. At the same time I set up so that they cleared on completion, but I couldn't tell you exactly which of these things made the diifference...

Hope that helps

Ben
