limewire for osX disconnects my cable modem

When I run Limewire for osX...latest versions, and either 10.2.x or Panther, it runs fine until I go to quit. When I quit of if it crashes, it disconnects me somehow from the net. The cable modem, a motorola surfboard, looks like it's online, but it seems I am disconnected from the dns server at that point. In order to fix this, I have to unplug and restart my modem, and usually restart my machine as well.

Absolutely the same problem here! Even after buying the newest version of limewire pro, everytime I want to start it it disconnects my DSL-Modem. I have to unplug it to get it back working.
Can someone please help???

Salut ą tous, sometimes modems don't like upstream saturation which means that you upload at the capacity of you line. Go in options or preferences and select upload -basic - and move the slider 2-5KB/s less than you upload capacity. You can go to dslreports.com to determine your upload speed in the tools section (be sure to not run other thing than your browser then). The speed will be given in Kb/s you have to do a conversion of speed with a factor of 8 ie 100kps /8 = 12,5 KB/s, then you put the upload limit to 10KB/s by moving the slider in preferences.

Bonne chance

Thanks for your trying to help. I tried turning down the upload speed, i put it 5 kb under the maximum speed, but it still disconnects my modem. Any other ideas?

Bon, ok, there is another possibility.... You have a poor (read shitty modem) that doesn't like when you are running as an ultrapeer (too much connections). See under the statistics (in the tool menu) - network - the number under "active connections" should be under 6, if it says around 30 connections , you are an UP, you can change that in options - speed -desactivate UP capacity- check the box and click apply...

Bonne chance :p

I think I found something! I“m working with MacOS X Panther. Trying this and that I noticed, that everytime I started Limewire from the original Start button and leave it in the LW Folder, it worked. Having the folder closed and trying to open limewire from the alias in the dock, it disconnected the modem. Can that really be it? I tried it a couple of times and that“s how it always worked.

 I don't see the link between the two actions and your modem... Are you on USB modem, I think it is probably your problem, if not there is something wrong with you panther installation! ;)

Ciao

I'm also experiencing big difficulties on my Mac running OSX 10.1.5 :-( My internet connection gets screwed up after starting LimeWire 3.8.5 Basic, and now I'm even having trouble connecting to IRC, using Ircle and Snak. I can connect to the IRCnetwork but can't join a channel, unless I quickly disconnect from the internet and reconnect.
I'd like to know what changes LimeWire made when I installed it, cos this is getting very annoying :-(

limewire and cable modems...disconnect on quit

well, even after a complete reinstall on a new harddrive, limewire still disconnects me from the net when I quit the program...it will also cancel restart/shutdown if it is still running when I restart...HOWEVER...I found that if I hit the standby button on the modem when I quit limewire, it does NOT disconnect my cable modem. I have a motorola surfboard modem SB4200E . so as long as I remember to do that, it goes ok. don't know if that will do any good for those with startup disconnects.
