Default Software component missing?

I am new to my Mac OSX system , and new to limewire!
I have not been able to preview or view a single movie .mpg or .avi that i have tried to download - the message says "...a software component needed by the file cannot be found" - a similar messge comes up when launching .avis and refers to software needed by quicktime that is not available online etc...
I havent yet waited for an entrie 100mb + file to downlaod YET as i assume the required component won't materialise at the end of the download.... Is this anything to do with it?

I have apple quicktime installed...
Your expert advise would be much appreciated.

SweetPea

Yup, they truly will play MOST (there are exceptions of course) of the videos.
Also, if you search, say google, you'll find that there is also a thing called DivX Doctor wich alters the file so that it can be playable in Quicktime.
While the latest method allows you to play the file in a player that, in my opinion, is more stable, the resulted file will be twice as large and you'll end up using A LOT of disk space.
