Repaired permissions, safe booted STILL quits

First of all, hello there from possibly the oldest member here.

I've been checking out the threads trying to figure out how to fix LW 4.0.5, which "unexpectedly quits" immediately upon startup.

iMac, running OS X 10.2.8
Safe booted, repaired permissions, still quits.

I'd REALLY like to find the old version and just get back to downloading again, but I can't seem to locate it.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello mom (great choice of nics!)

Sounds odd. Do you get any error message when it quits? I'm almost thinking that LW is trying to run in Classic mode . . . just a guess.

If you don't mind opening the Console (in your Applications/Utilities folder, it will record more information about what is causing the unexpected quit. You could post the info into a private message or here. With luck that will point to a quick fix.

If not, older versions (ouch!) are available here
http://www3.limewire.com/download/

Regards--stief (thanks for letting us know you'd already done the safe boot/permissions).

Thanks for the speedy reply! This is what the console reads:

Mac OS X Version 10.2.8 (Build 6R73)
Jun 5 10:27:38 Vicci-Cooks-Computer WindowServer[169]: CGXDisableUpdate: Updates disabled by connection 0x7803 for over 1.000000 seconds

/dev/disk0s9
/dev/disk0s9

That Os9 bit looks suspicious.

Hello Mom

Thanks for posting the console info (you might want to edit the computer name part)

The "CGXDisableUpdate" looks like some messages I used to see after the 'spinning beachball' would lock up the machine for a bit. However, usually iPhoto was involved, so I can't see any LimeWire hints there.

Try restarting your machine, open the LimeWire folder in your Applications folder, and double-clicking the LimeWire icon there: if Classic tries to start, the dock has the wrong alias or the computer is using the wrong LW version. If the Console is also open, you'll be able to check if the messages are the same.

Let me know how it goes: we can still try the 10.2.8 Software Update check and if necessary, a clean install.

This is a post that will bring you no solutions whatsoever to your problems. I just want to say that I agree with stief.
You have chosen, like, the coolest nickname ever !:D

LOL, thanks!

I've been gone most of the weekend and will try your next suggestion, stief. I couldn't figure out where to find the old version on that page you gave me. Too lazy to look in every folder!

Be back later with results.
