MAC users Is anybody else running a Mac with Limewire? I am having serious problems with uploading files to other Servants, HELP I don't want to be a freeloader and a lot of Servants have tried and failed. http://forums.gnutelliums.com/frown.gif Pls reply if working or not! |
I'm just decided to try one of these gnutella clients and I've successfully installed limewire on MacOS X. Now all I need to do is start the program. How do you do that? I'll see if I can upload anything once I get the program started. coley |

A wealth of infomation on now to do things can be found at http://www.limewire.com/index.htm your question try http://www.limewire.com/support/help/connections.htm |
Not sure, but your problem may be that you are clicking on the Limewire icon in the limewire folder and not the actual executable file (which doesnt look like much). |
I am clicking on the Icon that looks like an extension cord. Limewire does start and run, I can dowload, but uploads don't work http://forums.gnutelliums.com/frown.gif |
I am running Limewire on my MAC(aah) for a few days now. I have downloded a half dozen files some MP3, some MPEG-1 Today for the first time I monitored a servant trying to upload one of my files. When last I looked he had attempted a dozen or so times, on the same file, and each time the best he got about 30% uploaded before failure. I will continue to monitor and let you know. |
http://forums.gnutelliums.com/wink.gif Lightstone, I downloaded your file. I couldnot open it. It had an .ex extension. I tried Clarisworks WP but no luck. I renamed it to "lightstone" and put it back in my shared folder. As to uploading from me, I will be on line at least until 2100pst. Files that were uploaded 100% by others were: Linda Ronstadt - Am I Blue.mp3 and Different Drum;...tone Poneys.mp3 |
Lightstone, An unusual file would be (Ym* S*mac - Bambo.mp3); One servant tried 3 times and got 0% Another could be (B**tles - G**d Day S*nshine.mp3). Last night one servant tried 3X and got 93,92,90% before failure. My IP is 64.19X.1YY.1ZZ and I am on DSL. Bandwidth assigned to uploads is 50% On 2/26, I had 15 attempts at upload,on 5 different files; 2 files completed after a 3 failures at 20-30% ; 3 files failed with 0% after tries of 2X,3X and2X On 2/27, 4 attempts on 2 files. The sucessful upload was on the first try; The 3 failures are as above. I hope that you get Limewire going. Having another MAC(aah) using the same Client is very useful to me. I'm running a 4k build of mac os x. I downloaded the limewire for os x but i don' t know what to do with the .sh file, and neither does my os, apparently. Limewire webpage says install this from a shell window and build your own desktop icon for LimeWire. How do I do that? |
For OSX you need to find a terminal window. We are working on a killer OS X version with some help from Apple. |
Okay, but supposing i'm in the terminal, in the same direcotry as the .sh file, what do i need to type to install limewire? |
you type: sh LimeWireMacOSX.sh the capitals are important. Unfortunately this simply gives you another blank icon {amongst other things.} |
I downloaded LimeWire from download.com last night (it took about two hours instead of the predicted 19 minutes) and then I opened the installer and after I clicked on some things it took me to the main install part of it....but then all it did is say "installing uninstaller" and it wouldn't do anything after that. Is it just extremely slow or is something wrong? And I'm on a brand-new iMac. Thanks. Eric |
Thanks! Like you said, after doing sh LimeWireOSX.sh you end up with a blank icon, but this is a runnable file. Someone told me how to run a file from the terminal, and it works in this case, so I thought I'd share in case anyone else is looking to know: from the same directory as Limewire in the terminal, type ./Limewire (that's period slash the name of the file) |
I've tried the above using the Terminal.app, but keep getting permission denied. It's getting frustrating... Just one more time, could someone outline step by step the installation steps using the Terminal program in OS X, please? Tx. |
After I try to start Limewire in Terminal it denies permission. What is wrong? |
It always gives me such pleasure to see MAC users in distress. Take a group of people, make them as stupid and dependent as possible (I'm not by any means claiming that Micro$oft doesn't do exactly the same thing), the expect them drop back into a Unix shell to do something ( anything at all) . It's like asking a child to sauter some wires inside their Furbie. |
I had the permission denied problem too and this is how i got it install. I think some of these steps may not be needed but it works anyway so don't worry. 1) move the file you downloaded into the same folder as the terminal application. 2) open the terminal application 3) use the commands cd (change directory one level deeper) and cd.. (change directory one level up) to move to where the downloaded file is. You can use ls to see all the files in each folder 4) type sh filename (where filename is the exact name of the file you got, capitals and all) This should work. Hope it helps. |
Yeah, or like asking a guy to spell solder correctly! cd out of this forum hater! Quote:

Sauter? What is sauter? I solder Furbies for a living and am personally offended. Oh, I also am a "dependent" Mac User and had little difficulty installing LimeWire under MacOSX. Terminal Shmerminal, It doesn't take a genius. Got empty underpants? Must be Unix. |
Im trying to download movie files of mpeg format to my imac 333. However, no movie player on my mac (quicktime 4.1, microsoft media player, realplayer7) can read the files. Please help |
I solved my own problem. Changed the ID tags with resedit. Quote:

He must have ment saute. Nothing like a nice sauteed (pretend there's an accent there) furbie. MmmMmm good. Nothing like some good trolling either. |
They are abosolutely right, of course. My complete inability to spell solder correctly completely invalidates my argument. Silly of me to think I could put something like that past a group of Mac users! And to the gentleman who SOLDERS furbies for a living AND uses a Mac, I'm very, very, very sorry. Really. |
I just wanted to let you all know that I successfully installed LimeWire on Mac OS X. Here are the steps: 1) Download it. 2) Open Terminal.app (Look in Mac HD:Applications:Utilities:Terminal.app) 3) Switch to the directory you downloaded it to (cd .. to move up on directory cd <dir_name> to move "down" a directory) 4) Install the thing: type "sh LimeWireMacOSX.sh". This actually launches a nice gui installer. 5) Answer the installer questions. You can change most anything later in the app, so don't worry too much. 6) Run the app: type "./Limewire" in the directory into which you installed Limewire. Good luck. |
I installed Limewire with no problems but I can't get it to run. I'm in the terminal and in the right directory but when i type "./Limewire" and it says permissions denied |
I don't have OSX, so I don't know if this will work... but for those of you getting the "Permission Denied" message you might want to try this: - (in the console) make sure you're in the same directory as the limewire app - type 'chmod 777 limwireappnamehere' Again, I'm not sure if this will work.. but let me know if it does http://forums.gnutelliums.com/smile.gif |
I've been using the Wire on X for a while... very happy with the results... and glad to see that I wasn't the only one having to dust off the old college nix manual trying to figure out how to run a shell (tcsh anyone?) Anyway, does anyone know how to build an icon for the app so that we can run it directly from the desktop instead of through the terminal app? Thanks By the way, the best feature of X by far IMHO is that lovely spell checker that any app can have access to. From Omniweb to Fire... |
I unfortunately do not have any more useful information to add in terms of how to install LimeWire on OSX using the current installer. I just wanted to mention to everyone that we will be releasing a new OSX version in the next several weeks that will be a much smaller download (probably about 1 meg) and that will be far simpler to install. It will also be a much more stable and better performing version of the program, as OSX includes Apple's newest version of Java, which many of you undoubtedly realize. Our apologies for the complexity of the current install procedure. ------------------ Adam Fisk Lime Peer Technologies Developer |
I went to the folder were LimeWire was installed and did a "command I" on the LimeWire file then associated it with Terminal. Now all I have to do is double click the Limewire file and it runs. But I won't stop there I want a pretty icon, don't we all. I downloaded Iconographer 2.0.2, copied the Limewire logo form the web, resized it in Photoshop to 32x32 and pasted it into Iconographer theen I saved the icon into Limewire. I then "command L" the Limewire file and made an alias, drag and drop to where I put all my X apps, in a docked folder. It works great. Quote:

if you are getting the permission denied message when installing limewire, open the terminal window and type: chmod 777 LimeWireMacOSX.sh this changes the permissions on the file. then you can run the installer. be sure, however, that after you run it you notice that it opens up a new window for you to click 'next', etc. |
Ive been having pretty good luck with LW. I recall it installing fairly fast. I downloaded via cable to a quick silver 733. Not sure what you are trying to do on the desk top, but i just draged the icon (in osx this may be a link to other files as well but only makes and alias depending were you drag it to) to my dock. some issues: won't always start the first time (quites instantly) after a crash or exit, it is not consistant with the files it remembers are downloading upon the next session Greg:) |
What's your problem ? I've been uploading files on Mac without any problem. |
i have down loaded each version since 1.6, and never had a prob. if the download takes more than 15 min start again. i miss the old green plug, but not enough to get rid of the coffee cup from NASA, not that it makes any sense. |

I didn't have any problems downloading or uninstalling limewire 18-c. I didn't have to use the terminal. Are you guys sure you have the latest stuffit expander? The icon does not present in the dock (it is an applet icon), but I don't mind. I'd try to redownload the installer (perhaps disable firewalls). Also, i'm using Internet explorer 5.1. Other browsers may give you problems? Peace, Gratis |
file transfer interuppted = completed by other means than your computer alone (ie. they got their file from multiple hosts!) |

I downloaded Limewire basic 2.6 for OS X and attempted to install it, but only got an "unsupported archive" message from stuffit. I downloaded it several time more and got the very same error messages. I am running OS X v 10.1.5 on a G3/400. Any suggestions? Thanks |
I DL Limewire and installed it without problems. I use a standalone iMac with OS X 10.1.5, connected to the Web by ADSL. I am now donloading Final Cut Pro and all seems to work fine syl Albert |
