Internet Connection Drops

I'm having the same problem - LW runs perfectly for a while, sometimes for ages, then completely drops the connection - confirmed when I then try to use Safari or Internet Explorer. I then have to restart my iMac completely to re-establish connection. (I'm not using a wireless network, but I think we may have the same issue)

I have a iMac G4, 256MB, BT Broadband, Zoom ADSL Modem and when it's working OK I'm currently sharing over 1000 files

Though not a devastating problem it is really annoying! Anyone got any ideas??

Hmm, macdazzler. How long are you connected before the Internet connection drops? 24H? I'm saying that because after 24H of continuous connection, my ISP (Wanadoo France) shuts down my connection to alter my IP (apparently).

Thanks for your response,

I seem to loose connection at random times, sometimes after a few mins, sometimes after hours (i've read about your 24Hr thing in another post), so its not related to my ISP - I believe BT are OK for P2P sharing.

I have also made sure I have the latest Java version, so its not that either!

In the last few days I have tried simply resetting my modem when it happens & not shutting down LW or any other propgrams (no reset button so just pulled out the USB cable for a few secs) & once my modem finally gets a conection back (seems to take a while), LW does eventually re-connect by itself. Very odd!!

I'm gonna keep experimenting...! Any suggestions welcome :D

If your Zoom ASDL has an option for an ethernet connection rather than a USB one, try that.

for whatever reason, USB connections are less reliable.

You can try to cut down the number of connections LW maintains by limiting searches and downloads, and disabling ultrapeer mode in the speed section of the preferences.
