Kernel Panic!

I just encountered two kernel panics while running LimeWire and
my web browser (iCab) at the same time. This had never occurred
before. The first took place while running LW in the background and
browsing the WWW. The second occurred while I was running LW and
iCab was starting.

As a Mac user, i am not used to seeing a dark (grey or blue for other systems)
screen telling me to restart my computer every day.

I never encountered kernel panics with either iCab or LW and have
used both often at the same time. Maybe someone can help? Pleeease!!

The panic.log for the second crash is as follows:

I dont know which data is relevant and which is not. My configuration:
iMac DV SE G3 400 MHz (1999), RAM 640 MB, external FireWire HD,
OSX 10.3.5, external Ethernet DSL Modem (Teledat 331 LAN).
And LW 4.1.5.

Thanks in advance,

looks to me to be a problem with the external firewire (or SCSI?) drive "IOSCSIMultimediaCommandsDevice"

When LW crashes you'll see mention of java and it won't trigger a kernel panic. kernel panics are OS or hardware problems (like FW drives, memory chips, and a corrupted OS)

There were problems with firewire drives a while back: check the manufacturers site for a firmware update or something like that.

icab [gad! I'd forgotten about that! what OS are you using?] and LW run in the "user space" and don't have enough access to the parts that can crash the system: they can only crash themselves.

Well, thank you very much for clearing that up. I
almost suspected it wasnt LW, but since it happened
twice in a row with the same programs running...

BTW, iCab is still in "beta testing" mode, the current version
(April 2004) is 2.9.8. Yet, here in Germany it is quite popular.
And running on OSX 10.3.5. I am used to it and i like the various
filtering and finetuning options.

Thank you very much again. Im going to check for a firmware
update or something like that for my HD.

Anyway, No SCSI devices present. I wonder what that means.

Cheers,

Both FireWire and USB internally use the SCSI command set even though they transfer the command blocks using different cabling.

Um, you can try doing a hardware check (you know by poping in the disc that came with your comp and restarting while holding the options key...).
