what is airport????

just wondering if anyone can tell me what airport is? and ive plluged my hi fi into my mac but the levels are really low and i dont get a very good sound. is there a way of improving this?

oh yeah ive searched my harddrive or airport and it show ive got some airport software in there

AirPort is Apple's marketing name for Wireless LAN (WLAN) or Wi-Fi
