Have OSX 10.2.8 Java 1.4.1 used Safari
download opened ok . . .
started program and then nothing. . .
message on open panel
"please wait while Limeiwre Initializes"
that's it . . . no bounce . . .nothing

help!

That's a strange one indeed. It's as if the shutdown code is running instead of the startup code. Have you tried restarting the computer, making sure LimeWire isn't running, re-installing, and running LimeWire?

I re-booted after trashing the folder and preferences files of the current download . . . downloaded file again . . . same thing happened . . .
It is really strange isn't it?
Every other app on my hard drive works fine . . . everything . . .

jayfess--I recall something similar once before with 10.2.8, especially after a new install of the system.

A restart didn't help: I had to shut down the computer for ~ 2 minutes (to clear the memory--especially of the temp directories), and then power up again holding down the shift key (safe boot).

Might be worth a try.

btw--re a few of the other error messages:

the "Could not find image named `bang'" is triggered by opening the "about this computer" the first time after a restart, and is harmless. (Apple finally fixed that with Panther, but left it in Jaguar)

I never did figure out what triggers the "MIG server died" message--it usually followed the beachball and a hang with Safari.

Well, (just to narrow down if this is a java or installer problem), see if http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/LimeWire.html works (it uses a different installer).

If that gives the same message, reinstall java using the standalone installer Sam suggested before http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120242

Check the features history (at http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml ) every so often for new versions. We're going to start work on a new beta (LimeWire 4.5) and hopefully will fix this bug.

Try back in about a week or so.

Since you've shown it's likely not just the installer or java, (and that others haven't been able to duplicate this), can you think of anything else about your setup that might be non-standard?

If you were to create a new Admin user account, and try the installation there, that would rule out some conflict with your current user (home) setup.

btw--I'm assuming you've tried the Disk Utility's Repair Permissions.
