little pop up windows

can one turn off the pop up window that appear when the cursor passes over the file info area?

No you can't. These are mp3 id tags which provide xtra info about the song. My only advice is to try to avoid having your cursor over the list unless you need to.

control-click column headers and see if you have "extended tooltips" checked. You have the option to turn those off.
