Itunes no longer sees newly imported songs.

I have one of these new G5's running 10.3.8 and itunes 4.7.1 with Limewire 4.8.1.

All was well for a few weeks. I would download new songs and they would show up in the recently added playlist in itunes. Now it doesn't, or only infrequently.

In a related topic, how do you all manage these files from limewire to itunes. I have in the past download numerous songs at a time and played them in itunes, but they are not in the library yet. correct? Whats the best system to organize these incoming files that I desire to keep?

Thanks!

Check your preferences settings. Go to LW's Prefs>iTunes>Importing & enable iTunes importing & press apply. Go to Prefs>iTunes>Sharing & make sure your name & sharing option is ticked. Once songs are imported into iTunes then they are definitely within iTUnes music library (don't get confused with the windows version iTunes.)

Keep in mind iTunes cannot import some types of mp3s. Notable are Ogg Vorbis mp3 format, & rm (not sure about anymore.) So just double-check that all the songs you've dowlded are within the iTunes library. For this reason I keep a backup mp3 player in Audion which is now free!: http://www.panic.com/audion/download.html which does recognise Ogg Vorbis mp3's.

The LW playlist within iTunes is only a reference list to songs in your LW downld folder. But these should have also been imported into iTunes if importing is enabled within LW. So as suggested above ... just double-check that these songs are listed in the main iTunes library. I set my iTunes to organise via artist & album; see iTunes Prefs>Advanced & tick both ooptions for arrangement & copy files to Library when adding songs.

Ogg Vorbis is not MP3!

There are only two types of MP3. The original MP3 format which is also known as MPEG Audio Layer 3 and an enchanted - but not very successful - version called MP3 Pro (the latter is not supported by iTunes).

Ogg Vorbis:

MP3:

Thanks rkapsi for the xtra support & clarification (I learn something new everyday.) Audion does support mp3 Pro & Ogg.

But the fact iTunes doesn't support all formats shows that we need to be vigilant about checking which files have been imported Versus those that haven't. Thus I check my physical LW downld folder to iTunes library list.

thanks....

Thanks for the response! I checked the settings and they are all correct. I set them for itunes sharing a month ago when I started, but it all began to act flakey about a week ago, and I lost hundreds of tracks that I thought were in the library. Now, it appears to be only importing songs intermitently. Sometimes they do not enter any aspect of itunes, sometimes it enters the limewire playlist and the library, but not the recently added playlist. Odd, and unfortunate, as I work from the recently added playlist most of the time. I will try to pin it down.

Thanks again.

I wonder ... make a note of all your settings & whilst LW is closed, delete the LW preferences folder found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Your LW Preferences might be up the putt so 2 speak. Just a thought! ;) :)

But after u delete the prefs you'll need to reset the option settings next time u open LW.

I'll give it a whirl.

I'll try it as soon as I can, (the tossing of the prefs)

Just to make something clear. Newly downloaded files should appear in three places in itunes, the library, the limewire playlist and the recently added playlist. Right?

I don't have a newly added playlist on mine. I have a recently played playlist. But should definitely appear in the LW playlist & main library (or at least the latter.)

yep

It worked. Though the problem was intermittent, I think that pref file was the problem. And I am not to worry about tosssing files in my shared folder if I see them in the library, correct? or do I need to consolidate the library before cleaning out my shared folder?

Thanks for the patience, I seem to get a bit confused with the windows way.

(and I just lost a ton of music...)
