mac keeps on crashing

hi this keeps on happening for no apparent reason my mac will freeze up and i will have to reset the machine. also sometimes what ever app im using it quits. ive ahd the memory upgraded and am now running on 768 mb memory and a 1ghz processor. ive used disk utilities to try and sort this out, but it keeps on happening. any clues, oh and it mainly seems to crash on limewire but quit out of everything.
using osx 10.2.8 is it worth updating to panther?
many thanks

I'm assuming you have run Software Update and are using the latest version of LimeWire . . .

see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36028 for how to get a Console report of the crash

First though, it would better to shut down the computer for a couple of minutes (to clear the memory), then startup holding down the shift key right after the start-up tone ("Safe Boot Mode"). Open the Console, and then LimeWire.

When (if) it crashes, the error report will show up in the Console window, and you can post the key parts here.

As for Panther, I'd wait until Tiger is released shortly ;)

new crashing too!

the same thing is happening to me. I have a new G5 (3 weeks old) and I downloaded Limewire 4 days ago. It ran beautifully (downloaded 100 successful songs), cleared my download and incomplete queue list, have not shut the computer down or quit Limewire and this morning without searching or asking it to do anything ( I just wanted to look at the Monitor box) I only had Limewire as a top tab instead of File, Edit, connections, etc.... The ball was spinning as if it was waiting for something, but the task bar was incomplete. I had to force a quit on LW only because my other programs were running OK. And now after being up 2 hours LW was minimized but running, I am back at the incomplete task bar and frozen again? ANy thoughts? Also what more info should I give you to help? Running the basic free version of LW.

true, but it does show you how to get the information people need to be able to help you.

After doing the safe boot, what does the Console say when LW tries to open?
