LW and OSX 10.4.1

My LM 4.8.1 Basic won't start. I have tried all the things I have read in the forum.
When I type : java -version in the Terminal, I get the answer : Bus error.

I can't re-install Java 1.4.2 under Tiger even if I remove the receipts from the Library.

What should I try?
