Java Headache - please help!!

I'm still suffering from the problem of limewire popping up in the dock and disappearing. I've tried all the solutions on the apple website but to no avail!

Terminal says when I check for the java version java truncated or malformed library: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Libraries/libjava.jnilib (file is empty) Which doesn't mean anything to me I do not understand.

I really need help, I've rung customer support and they are unwilling to help me unless I pay, which I can't afford to do, and plus I'm not paying for a problem that Apple has caused!

Please, please, help! I feel as if I am completely alone at this stage, I'm so frustrated!
Any help -at all- would go a long way - please!

Have you already tried http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301382

Yes I have but it isn't working. The help that they have listed is referring to java 1.4.2, whereas I have 1.3.2. I've tried updating to 1.4.2 but my laptop won't let me as it says I do not need it.

Any suggestions, please??

Hmm. You are supposed to have 1.4.2 AND java 1.3.1

Did you work through the links in that article and try all the different downloads?

If so, and no luck, there are a few more system reinstall steps that can be tried.

I've downloaded everything related to Java at this stage. I download Java 1.4.2, but it refused to let me continue the installation because it said I didn't need to update the version.

I ran a search on my laptop and it has Java 1.4.1 Plugin settings, but again it won't allow me to open the file. It bounces in the dock and disappears.

I'm not even sure now if I am suffering from the java bug because as I said previously I get a different message in terminal.

It tells me the 1.4.2 file is empty, however it won't allow me to install it?

I think I'm going to have to pay the £65 repair fee since I cannot seem to get help online :(

Oh--there are a few more things you can try before paying the fee. After all, these are probably the steps they will require anyway.

1. Safe boot (hold down the shift key right after the startup tone). This will run a file system check and repair.

2. Reinstall the updates from the standalone combo installer, then apply the java fix linked above. here's the combo installer http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...pdate1039.html

3. Reinstall the system, then apply the combo installer and finally the java fix
