newbie needs advice

hi,
1st up i'm real square about this whole thing so even the basics are not understood by me.
LW is installed on my system. i have done a search (for entourage) and downloaded something that i thought was entourage. not sure what i do next in terms of installing and running the application. also not sure if this is the microsoft entourage that i was hoping to install. my original entourage mail manager became corrupted and i am trying to replace that application. i'm currently without any of my email contacts which i may not be able to retreive but that's another post on another forum i guess. i did look through the FAQs and other help material but couldn't find what i was looking for or didn't recognise it when i did so thanks in advance for your patience and any help/advice given.

everything after i have perfomed a search for an application.
ie.

what to do next all the way to running the app?

Dan,

(1)
you speak of "Microsoft Entourage" you try to dl.
But you also speak of my original entourage mail manager ?
What do you mean by this term ?

(2) It is very difficult to give a general way-of-working to install an application -you've downloaded from the p2p. Most of the time:
(*) they came as an archive you have first to unzip.
(*) then, most often, you have an "image" (.dmg) you have to double-clikc on to mount on desktop.
(*) inside this mounted image, you either find the application or an installer.
(*) the installer has to be runned to obtain the final application
(*) when the application is launched, a serial is generally required to go further.

My personal opinion is taht I do no trust at all to downloaded applications from the p2p; they can be fake, contain viruses or be incomplete so that their installation may harm the system

Phil

By the way, could you detail your machine and OS

Dan,
So, if you already own Microsoft Entourage, what 'entourage' do you hope to dl and install ?
Do you have Entourage v.X and do you hope to download Entourage 2004 which is part of Office 2004 suite ?
If you start your Entourage when holding the alt key, does Entourage prompts you to repair/rebuild the database. if yes, proceed. Is it better ?
