OS 10.4.2 - Tiger LW wont run

Hi All,

I have a G4 533Mhz with 768 RAM. I have loaded Tiger (clean install each time). I have done all the updates through auto update and each time I download LW and install it, it won't start. At fist it blinks in the dock and then goes away. I then have done the apple thing in the terminal screen for java (java -version) and then the fix in the terminal window for that (though I can't do the update that they are referring to at apple since I only have os 10.4. Once I have finished with the terminal change and try to launch LW I then get it to blink in the dock and then it looks as if it is launhed in the dock but no windows every come up. The only way to quit out at that point is to force quit. I have read the many threads but haven't found anything that works. Again, I only have Tiger. I am not working on 10.3 and then upgrading.

Thanks for any and all of your help.

Glen

Additional comment

I first started with Basic and then chose to buy Pro hoping it would help. Same results with both versions. I have even tried the Beta but still no luck.

Thanks,

Glen

Since you're still using Java 1.4.2, might I suggest you re-install Java using the standalone installer: http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...update142.html
This is more often than not, a java issue where your java hasn't installed properly or similar issue.

BTW if it comes up with an error when trying to install the Java: You get the "null" message in the Apple installer when a OS X thinks a more recent version is installed. Double-click the harddrive icon, open the Library, open the Receipts folder, then find the file: Java1.4.2Update2.pkg, delete it and try again.

Wont let me reinstall java

No package by the name you said.

Java14Documentation.pkg
Java.pkg
Java14Tools.pkg
Java15Release1.pkg

I beg your pardon/apologies. The 1.4.2 installation for Tiger seems to be different to Panther. As shown here: Can't launch LW: Bouncing in Dock
Perhaps you may consider Jum's version. Some people have found this to be a solution. Particularly the nightly build. See link under point 8 in the link I gave.

See if this works: JavaApplicationStub (click on link)
