Mac pinwheel (lockup) problem

Thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same problem as most, LW shut down on launch, but I followed the instructions about the java deal and it now opens. When it opens, it has that screen that gives you the option to download Pro or click Later. While this pop up is open, LW goes through all the motions, I get full green bars, and the cursor starts blinking in the search field. However, whatever button I click on in the popup at that point (Later, Yes, Why) causes the popup to disappear as it should, but the search field cursor disappears and the mouse cursor starts pinwheeling. LW completely locks up and I have to Force Quit. Any ideas? I've already run Disc Utility has been advised.

When you press the search button, the search field will disappear & be replaced with the results filters options. To get back to the search options, simply press the Back to Search button bottom left.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: 10.3.9)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. What model of mac are you using?
13. How many files are you sharing (the total will show bottom left of LW)?

There is NO OPTION for me to click on ANYTHING on the screen. As SOON as I close the pop-up, LW becomes totally locked up. Therefore, I couldn't click on search if I wanted to.

1. 10.3
2. No Firewalls
3. 256
4. 36.6 megs available
5. Wireless dial up (128 kbps)
6. metricom gs modem
7. Home
8. 4.9.29
9. Ricochet Wireless
10. no
11. 1st
12. Powerbook G4
13. 24

Thanks again!

Go to LW's preferences>Searching>Basic & untick show license & press apply. (Sample image: Licence requirement (click on link))
Also, LW's preferences>Speed & tick disable Ultrapeer capabilities.

You don't have a lot of ram i notice. That might be semi-related to your issue.

Is that a Ricochet or Repotec wireless router. Most wireless routers use NAT firewalls. So unless yours uses UPnP (Universal Plug & Play), you may find your LW is partially blocked by the NAT firewall. If there's a UPnP switch on the device, make sure it's enabled. Though if Linksys makes them then they should utilise UPnP. If not, you may need to forward (open) a port.

BTW try connecting without the router & see if you have the same problems.

Oh I just realised you're using dial up. They must be using a speed up dial up service. AFAIK that just means they maximise the speeds for browsing/surfing.
