I need help. I can't drag and drop my songss from LM directly into my iTunes folders. I just reinstalled LM back onto my laptop and could do it before, which was about a week ago. Now after deleting LM then putting it back I have to let LM import into a LM file in iTunes then take those songs and drag them into the correct iTunes folder. It takes too much time and was so much easier when I could drag straight into the file. Why doesn't it work anymore?

It would help with this sort of question if you could tellus a bit more about your OS.. LW version iTunes version etc. However:
In LW there is an option for iTunes> Importing>enable iTiunes importing. I have that checked. In iTunes>preferences>advanced>importing(might be slightly different in old versions)> create file names with track number: I have that checked. This way songs should be automatically loaded into iTunes and added to folders inside the iTunes music folder by artist name ... new folders being created for new artists. The songs should also show up in a playlist called LimeWire which is generated automatically. No dragging and dropping is involved except for the odd song that will not load into iTunes automatically, and I tend to select add to library, and add the files like that. You may also need to make sure that your Limewire preferences>saving>save folder is your iTunes music folder. I just have noticed that the preferences for iTunes 5.0.1 read somewhat differently and less clearly, from those for older versions, still seems to work the same 'though Let me know if this helps. |

I'm running OSX Panther and iTunes 5.0.1
How do you get the music to import directly into the pre-made music folders in iTunes? You mentioned that was easier than dragging but I can't seem to get either to work. What have I missed? |

ALAIK the folder set up for iTunes Music Library depends upon the id3 tag. So if the song file has an incorrect id3 tag, you can correct it within iTunes itself. Just select the song within iTunes, Command & i keys or go to file menu>Get info (or mighty mouse users use front button depending on your configuration of it) & then change the incorrect details or add what's missing. After you've finished, iTunes will automatically update its music library & any incorrectly labelled artist/album will be put into a new folder or existing folder of that artist. Check it out. As Only A Hobo suggested, if you have iTunes preferences set so it arranges the library (tick option to Keep iTunes Music Library organised), then iTunes will do this all in real time if any details are changed.
Attempting to do it manually outside of iTunes will not work properly. I always double-check the id3 tag info to make sure all details are correct. Arrange songs by date added temporarily. I also use Media Rage (previously mp3 Rage) to check all details. Media Rage is a tagging program & any file not added to iTunes, I check/add the id3 tag info & update the tag version before adding to iTunes. This is handy for albumwrap files in particular.
