I've seen other posts on this subject, but no answer has worked for me.

Having gone 'Pro', my download speed has dropped dramatically, to between 5 and 15 kbps. It was a lot faster before. The coincidence with the upgrade may or may not be a factor...

I've seen posts suggesting that my ISP may be limiting the speed. There was one fix for this posted but it was for windows and did not seem to work for OSX.

The weirder thing is that while running Limewire and downloading, the speed of my browser (Safari) drops too, to about 56k. Unbearably slow. I am meant to be 1.5MB fast.

Any similar experiences or ideas? Thanks.

The speed test info would aslo help, as well as a www.magnetmix.com download speed check. If you don't recall those tests, let me know and I'll look them up for you.

At work, where I am connected via a wireless router to a network, my download speed is creeping up to even 30kbps, and my browser faster, though a speedtest to Speakeasy at

from here in Middle East gives a result of 190kbps down and 46kbps up, WITH LIMEWIRE DOWNLOADING at approx 20KB/s.

Problems seemed worse to be at home.....
But I guess my point is that I'm not really getting a 'turbo-charged' download with ANY file....

Sounds right

kbps results need to divided by 8 to give KB/s results (there are 8 kilobits in 1 kilobyte).

So, a 190kbps connection should give you (when divided by 8), a theoretical maximum download speed with LimeWire of 23.8 KB/s.

If you are getting 20 KB/s, all seems normal.

the "magnetmix test" is just to download one of the legal (and free) files to your LimeWire. Any of the files from http://www.magnetmix.com/audio2.shtml should max out your connection, and provide a real test of your gnutella download speed.

Yes, but without Limewire working I am getting speedtest results of in excess of 1000 kbps. Up to 1700 sometimes. There is nothing wrong with my connection, and yet Limewire does not seem to reflect that. I appreciate there are limits within Limewire depending on hosts' upload speeds, but still....

Ah--always do the speedtests alone (no other apps running) to test your connection's speed.

Then check LW's speed with one of those magnetmix files. LW depends on the speed of the source of your file, and those can be very slow or inconsistent. That's why I like to check against the files from magnetmix, since thoise sources are quite fast and very reliable.
