Cannot Preview Files

I couldn't find a topic on this, so I hope I didn't miss one and begin a new one without needing to...

I can't preview any of the files that are being downloaded in LW. Using Mac OS X 10.3.9. The files download, but when I try to preview them I get a message saying that the file cannot be played as files of that type are not recognised (and they are all mp3 files). Upon opening LW I am also getting a message saying that the Saved Folder is gone, or may have been deleted, so I have to choose a new Saved Folder, but this does not seem to work either...

If I go to the Incomplete folder, the files can be partially played in iTunes, but the ability to preview the file within LW appears to be gone??

Any help would be much appreciated, I hope this makes (some!) sense.

Go to LW's preferences (Command + comma) -> Player & see if the option is ticked or not. If not, then your default audio program will normally open & play the files when you preview audio files. If it is clicked, then LW's media player should preview. LW's media player is not super reliable & may not work as expected if LW itself is too busy. It's also very slow to react when initially pressing the preview button.

The Saved Files folder is simply a reference folder within LW's Library window. It doesn't physically exist but is equivalent to the LW downld folder (whatever you called it.) If there's problems with this then it sounds something's wrong. Your LW prefs might be corrupt or your system needs some repair work with Disk Utility. To delete LW's prefs which should only be done whilst LW is closed, you'll find them here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire
Next time opening LW, you'll need to reset your options so you might want to make a note of them before you delete the LW prefs.

When your files are downlding or have completed downlding, you don't add them to the playlist do you? Or use the save as option?

If iTunes isn't doing the job for playing the songs, then use other options.

For a backup audio player for osx get Audion (click on link) since it's now free & can play some formats iTunes can't play such as mp3Pro & Ogg Vorbis.

For video files, get either VLC - (click on link), or XinePlayer, or mplayer
