Hi, there is major problem with Limewire version (4.9.37) It won't start up when using the latest java version in tiger which is Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 1, but it will work with java version 1.4.2_09. How to fix: If you are using java J2SE 5.0 you have to switch over to the older version of java by opening your applications folder & then going to the utilities folder and the java folder, then J2SE 5.0 folder. After that doubleclick on (Java Preferences) to change which java version you want to use. |
If you ask me, this is most certainly an Apple bug. As a mac user, I can certify that if there is a place that OSX sucks at, is getting a proper and working java platform  Apple: wake up or let Sun do the OSX JVM!!!! Ciao |
Java Fix for Tiger To check if the problem is your java, go to Applications>Utilities and then open Terminal. Type: java -version If it says "Segmentation fault" then you need to install java again. You can go here to get the files needed: http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...2release2.html (Tiger only. For 10.3.9, go here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...acosx1039.html ) |
Limewire 4.9.37 is working fine now not sure why. I'm using Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 1 for Tiger right now. Maybe the system software switched over to the older version of java which is 1.4.2_09 when Limewire was started up. Btw I'm using tiger version 10.4.3. |
I selected each java version in prefs, but Limewire worked on neither.....still stumped. Maybe I need to reboot after switching to the 5 version? |
