newbie here...firewall problems...sorry guys, i know you must've seen this before

Hey:
I have just got LimeWire Pro cause Basic was going really slowly. I've had connection problems for a few days using Basic, and now Pro has the same problems. LimeWire worked fine for weeks before then.

I tried the suggestions for allowing LimeWire through my firewall but nothing seems to work. (It was in another thread, something about DLing new Java and the fact that newer Macs don't have LimeWire or Gnutella in the firewall drop-down in system preferences...I did what the thread suggested.) I tried this test: "Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?" and it worked.

LimeWire says it can't connect because it's "waiting for stable connections". Plus, it keeps disconnecting and re-connecting a lot.

Unfortunately, I have a sneaking suspicion that, because I'm connecting through a college network, that this problem has nothing to do with me, and they've just upped their security on file sharing. Does anyone know how I check whether this is the case?

Sorry about the essay!

Oh yeah, I'm on a 1 GHz G4 using Tiger 10.4.3.... and my LimeWire is the latest version of Pro.

Hey there,

I have a sneaking suspicion you are right about the college internet connection firewall. Do you know anyone in the IT department of your school? If not, you should go down there and introduce yourself to some of the student help down there. I am willing to bet they can tell you you whats up with the campus firewall and I betcha hand over fist they are P2P'ers themselves.

Thanks for the response! LimeWire is actually working on and off now...so maybe it's just that the college network is kinda sketchily connected in the first place.

I'll go and ask them.

:D
