10.2.8:Upgraded, now can't see search window

I'm running 10.2.8, and upgraded to 4.10, and I suddenly can't see the search window when I enter a query. Is this something I'm gonna have to learn to live and deal with being my own fault for still running 10.2.8, or is there something I can do to still use Limewire? (Without upgrading my system software)

I'd recommend reinstalling Java using the "Offline" standalone java installer. The following thread has a link to this Jaguar java installer: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=49809

If that doesn't work, delete the LW preferences file called limewire & found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Or you could delete the prefs file 1st to see if that fixes it without the need for the reinstallation of Java.

OK, did that, same stuff

I dragged my whole limewire preferences folder to the trash, then updated my java w/o reopening limewire, and then restarted.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a change.
I still get a blank search window and all my buttons disappear when I enter a query.:(

Well, it at least helps the process of elimination.

You wouldn't by any chance be in antarctica would you? Been thinking about going down there with Raytheon.

Near enough, off in that direction. :D

Hmm well I am surprised it didn't work. I notice LW lists Mac OSX 10.2.6 as the minimum for using the newer versions of LW. I can't think of what the answer might be. You could try a safe boot & repair permissions. SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions It's a bad time since most others have gone away on holidays or just taking time out to celebrate Xmas. So I can't invite anybody else here for a little while.

Just as an experiment, try one or more of Jum's nightly builds here http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/ (no installation necessary, just drag & drop the program from the dmg to where you want it.) Jum's build's are CVS builds ... betas if you like. Find the nightly builds link on that page!

No, sir. Nope. Uh-uh.

Although it was interesting to see how many things it repaired, since I just did it like 72 hours ago, before I upgraded, the permissions repair (in safe boot) also did not remedy my disappearing search results window.
I don't know if it has any sort of significance, but the machine I'm running is a b+w g3 with a g4 upgrade. That right there has seemed to cause a few little problems for me with certain software. I didn't think with the way Limewire is programmed and run that that would make any sort of difference, but you never know. Maybe somebody else is having the same problem. I saw some other guy's posting with the same problem, but he just upgraded to 10.4 and fixed it. I can't upgrade to 10.4, maybe I can to 10.3, but I probably won't be able to do that for awhile.
If anybody has a fix for that in the meantime, that would be AWESOME. Otherwise, it'll just be a kick in the butt for me to upgrade my system software.

BTW: MERRY CHRISTMAS/HAPPY HOLIDAYS to anybody reading this, and especially responding. It's a weird time to be up and talking about computer crap online when you should be getting up at like 7am to call your family and wish them a Merry Christmas.:D

It sounds you forgot to try out the betas I suggested. Sometimes jum's versions work where the official version doesn't.

Perhaps it is a G3 issue I don't know. I presume you have slower ram, slower bus speed, etc. If the issue isn't Java or Prefs which are generally the 2 things that do repair that type of issue for both mac & windows, then I guess either a reinstall of LW or a system issue. I guess the alternative is to use an older version like one of the earlier 4.9 versions or 4.8.1

Which version of LW were you using before you updated?

I am having the same problem. It is very frustrating. Mine was working fine until I updated to the version 4.10. Have you by chance figured out what to do?

error in search window of LW in combination with osX10.2.8

First of all merry X-mas and a happy new year to all of you!
Hope you all have a good time with your family and friends.

I just bought LW Pro and installed it on my g4 silverline with osX 10.2.8.
Frustrating result: The search window is not displayed properly after the first search.

- The handle of the searchwindow that usally shows the searched item and number of computers/results remains empty.
- The searchlist remains invisible, even when LW has found results. As long as you drag the divider between search window and downloadwindow up and down, the results show up.
- Same with the buttons for download/ ... /stop/.
- The items show up, if one klicks with the mouth around, so basically it is possible to use LW Pro.

Before I used the free Version 4.9. and it worked fine.
Somehow I think, that this is a bug and not me or my computer...
Is there anyone, who has any better solution to this problem?

best regards, Thomas

Happy Holidays to you as well.

That is the same as mine yet I didn't buy the pro. Have you contacted Limewire and asked them? Seeings you have the pro they give you support. A friend of mine downloaded the new version for her computer and it is running fine, but of course she is running windows. I'm really hoping this problem is solved soon I miss having limewire.:(
