Ouch. No easy solution yet; this problem looks like an issue for a new thread.

Developers of other java apps are noting a new conflict with the QuickTime 7.0.4 Update and 10.3.9, and the solutions to the previous problem don't work this time. I haven't found a link to a practical fix so far.

Quicktime 7.0.4 kills Java application

Here's the link to an uninstaller Quicktime 701 Reinstaller for Quicktime 7.0.4

On the Final Cut Pro forum, the attitude is always a wait & see approach, re: updating QuickTime. Better to wait & see whether it's safe to update. It's not uncommon for updates of QT to have some kind of bug.

martind28 January 21st, 2006 08:35 AM

This QT upgrade appears to be the problem! I have just returned to QT 7.01 from 7.04 and lo and behold my limewire is back! Now seems to be working fine, these Apple upgrades should come with a health warning! How are novice users meant to know the implications of these upgrades?

Thanks for the info.

Thank you! This has been driving me mad since I installed QT 7.0.4 yesterday. I knew it had to be related. Thanks for providing the proof, and a way out.

No problems with QT Pro 7.0.4

I delayed installing QT Pro 7.0.4 after reading about all the conflicts, but I have experienced no problems at all after installing it. I did install the newer version, not the initial release.

Do you mean QT 7.0.4 didn't affect LW? Which OS version are you running & which version of LW? Just trying to work out why it didn't affect you. I use 7.0.3 & it hasn't affected LW.

I notice the QT 7.0.1 reinstaller is one of apple's top 10 downlds from their site. lol :D

I'm using LW 4.10.5 Pro, on OS X 10.4.4.
As I stated in my lasy post, I installed the corrected release of QT Pro , not the initial release.
Seems there was a problem with the initial release, but it was fixed after a few days. and kept the same version #.

Giani February 14th, 2006 08:30 AM

hey all,

im also using 10.4.4 on new intel core duo.
newest update of limewire was working fine untill yesterday when it started shutting down at start up, it holds untill the "upgrade to pro" pop up, but when i click any of the options it shuts down. its strange though because i didn't perform any upgrade and it was working fine with quicktime 7.0.4

I tried lime wire 4.10.5,6,7,8 all the same...

any ideas? =)

Perhaps you could tell us how you managed to use 4.10.6,7, and 8, when the newest release is 4.10.5.

Thanks for letting us know. I wonder if that update includes a bug fix for QT.

LW 4.10.5 is the "official" version however, there's been betas trialled out since; see http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml
You can get some more details in the Beta section of the forum if you wish to trial the betas & help problem solve. You can also catch up on improvements & bug fixes here http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml

Giani February 17th, 2006 01:17 PM

cool thanks for the advice! (had no idea about beta!)

lots of smiles =)

I don't know if this applies to everyone else, but after upgrading to Tiger I found an external firewire capture device wouldn't work due to QuickTime. The solution is here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
After that I installed QT 7.0.4 & LW had no problems running with it at all. I guess the problem might have been having QT 6 still on the system in my receipts folder. But I never did try QT 7.0.4 before that so I don't know if there would have been a problem for me also. (BTW I've heard a rumour Apple might get rid of their firewire options. At least the FW800.)

Giani try reinstalling your Java. Use the "Offline" installer from the apple site. I'd also recommend updating to Java 1.5 & forcing LW to use 1.5 if you haven't done this already. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301073 for instructions for forcing LW to use Java 1.5 & Java 1.5 can be found here Java 1.5 release 3. I'd also recommend deleting your LW preferences folder whilst LW is CLOSED found here /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

thanks for the tips, unfortunately the that version of java cannot be installed on intel mac, so problem persists!!

I suspect you're mistaken. Go to your Receipts folder; ie: OSX > Library > Receipts & I suspect you may well find Java 1.5 already there. If it is, then remove the Java 1.5 version & then try reinstalling it.

I didn't see anything in the requirements about particular machine or having 1.5 Release 1 1st.

Giani February 25th, 2006 06:17 AM

all i have there is the java.pkg, but then the version that cannot be installed on my intel mac was the 1.5 release 3, so will now try with release 1.

thanks!

Quicktime fix worked for me THANKS!

Now my Limewire works. I tried all the tips,
Remove Chess game, reinstall Java, etc... This Quicktime unstall worked for me.
Thanks for the help everyone. Good luck!
:D

The link for the 7.0.1 version doesn't seem to be working...

Lord of the Rings December 17th, 2006 09:10 AM

But do you have QT 7.0.4? If yes, then update. Otherwise see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...tnum=301852-en
