dmg error "not recognized"

after downloading I get what looks like a perfect dmg file. But when I try to open it I get "not recognized" error I have downloaded from other sharer's I get the same error.

Please help.

Are you sure it was a full sized file? I've noticed there's some which are not full dmg files. Don't get confused between KB & MB. The small ones seem to be duds.
