Download speed problem...

Hi,
I recently upgraded to the pro version of LimeWire... Since then, my downloading speed (time) has been quite deceving... Before, I could access up 10 130kps and now, I down to 30-34 max...

I have a powerbook 17" mac OS X (Tiger). I don't have an antivirus software and like I said, before I upgraded, everything was going well...

Thank you for your well appreciated support,
François

Salut

speeds are so variable, and depend on the sources, but you should still be able to get good speeds from reliable hosts.

try testing your speed with downloads from http://www.magnetmix.com/audio2.shtml (they should be easily > 100 KB/s)

If not, ask your ISP if they filter or throttle filesharing on the gnutella network.

Speed issues here also!

Actually, I too have the same exact problem.

I used to have version 4.7 (? I think that's what it was) and it was the Pro version. I used to fly with 60/70kb, now that I upgraded to 4.10, I don't even get half of that speed. I tried downloading several files (large ones too, over 100 Megs) for testing and even from 9-10 hosts all I get is 20-30 Kb, maybe tops at 40-45 Kb. I also tried that MP3 site, I got 10-15 Kb download speed, before I was at 30-40 Kbs with MP3 files. Even right this moment I got 6 hosts for one file and it's coming down at 5-6 KB. Terrible!

My system: G4, 1 Gig RAM, OS 10.2.8, DSL 1.2 Mbps connection, LimeWire 4.10. I do use a hard and soft firewall (Linksys and Norton, respectively) but I had these before too, didn't make any changes there.

Something is not right here. Too bad I trashed my old version, this new one is no match for the old one. :(

This may or not make a difference, but try deleting your LW prefs folder whilst LW is closed & found here /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Also, consider doing this Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

I'm back to full speed again. It turned out my ISP had some outages in the area the day I got my LW 4.10 upgrade and it was actually my entire connection that was dragging. I didn't realize this since aside from LW I don't use anything to do any large downloads. Anyway I called them and they had me power down and back up my modem and that put me back to full speed.

Thanks guys for the suggestions.
