Limewire connects - Browser doesn't

This seems to be the opposite problem as everyone else...

I'm using an iBook G3 10.4.3. My apartment building is networked and I'm using a wireless router.

I just got an external harddrive and while transferring my files I began downloading from limewire. After a while I noticed my internet connection was lost, but limewire was still working.

After restarting my computer, limewire worked but my web browser didn't.

I've restarted my router. Removed limewire. Restarted my computer. Nothing works. Limewire continued to work until I removed it. My neighbor's wireless network is up, and I can use it so I know it's not the apartment's network.

I ran network diagnostics, and even though limewire was working it could not detect an internet connection.

The only things I haven't tried are restarting the apartment's network and bypassing my router to just use an ethernet connection.

Any suggestions? This is weird...

Well, I turned off my computer, went to work, came home and now it works. Who knows what it was???

My suggestion would have been to reboot the modem/router but I wasn't totally sure of your set up. My isp advice is usually to reboot the router, if that fails then to reboot computer. They will stop communicating to each other under certain circumstances. So it looks like the comp reboot was the trick for you on this occasion. Thanks for letting us know. So if it happens again then consider both ways. Also, perhaps reduce upload & downld bandwidth slightly. And especially, be wary of using the Resume/Find Sources function on all your incompletes as this can definitely use up all the computers & lw's resources if you have many incomplete files. And result in such a situation.

The reason I didn't answer earlier is that sometimes the agent/landlord supplies the connection & it's all in their care & control. Which means you mightn't be able to do much.
