Limewire Pro & Mac Osx 10 4.5

I have a new Mac G5 and Limewire worked until today. It kept quitting with application error unknown, so I upgraded to PRO (which was a fiasco in itself, never did get a receipt but my account was charged). I reloaded Limewire and it worked. Had to install a program the restart. Then it said LIMEWIRE stopped the restart. I quit Limewire then restarted. Now it loads up, shows the tips and hints then blinks off with the same error message. I copied some of the message below...

I did try to get support online but it kept looping me endlessly through purchase screens. I finally managed to find the forums, but that was by accident. I hope this isn't repetition of something already posted. I sincerely would like to find a fix - perhaps others are having the same issues. As I said it was working fine until today. In fact the firewall even removed the Limewire port so I had to manually put it in again. Any guidence is appreciated!

another clue for this issue.

Shared music library LIMEWIRE tunes in iTUNES is not accessible for unknown reason -3260. Check firewall software....set to allow communication on port 5214...

I just restarted with a fresh install, it works however LIMEWIRE PRO is not the version... SIGH if it's not one thing it's another...

If you bought pro for US $18.88 from the official site http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml then you should have received an email with a link to your personal pro downld page. You should bookmark that page. If that's not how you downlded pro, then you didn't get pro.

Which Java version are you running? It makes a difference! I'd recommend updating your Java to 1.5 & forcing LW to use it. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301073 in regards to making Java 1.5 your main java.

I'd also recommend deleting your LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed; found here /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Java & LW Pro

That is the exact site I got off the email sent to me by customer@limewire.com when I clicked on the get PRO NOW.... It was downloaded from:

Your LimeWire application is ready for download here:
http://_limewire.com/****

LWL*LIME WIRE LL
PENDING DEBIT CARD PURCHASE ($18.88)

As for the Java this is the message I got when attempting to install:

ava 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 1 provides support for J2SE 5.0 on Mac OS X 10.4. This release does not replace the existing installation of J2SE 1.4.2.

For more details on this release, please visit http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301073

It states that it cannot update this volume {my mac } because it already has the most recent update....

I can get the basic version to load and stick now.. I changed the TCP & UDP to 6346 which i got from another of your posts....

SO NOW: It works, but I don't have the PRO. I also think it has something to do with quitting LIMEWIRE FIRST before restarting.

I do appreciate your input, I will also clear out the LW preferences to give it a fresh load. Advice on the PRO deal is quite welcome! ;-)

:)

That's very odd that it won't let you install Pro over Basic. I'd suggest you trash Basic (or archive it.) Then go to OSX folder, Library->Receipts & remove Install Limewire. Receipts folder sample image. Then try installing pro again.

BTW you should NOT normally remove items from the Receipts folder as the system requires them.

Oh & did you open Java Utility & put Java 1.5 at the top of the list so LW will use it? The Java utility is found in your Utilities folder.
To check LW is using it, go to menu bar after you open LW, then click on the limewire word at top left next to apple icon, & select About LW. This will tell you which version of Java LW is using. ;)

I went to the utility like you said and moved Java 5 (within the JTSE 5.0 folder) to the top... I didn't see 1.5 only 1.43 and 1.3.1.

the system wouldn't let Java 1.5 install -- stating something like "it couldn't upgrade an already installed version..." I will trash the basic and reinstall the PRO.. Thank you for the tip about not removing receipts -- since I am new to OSX that prevents me from making HUGE mistakes! (the last version I used on a mac was 9.6...) Your posts are extremely helpful to me as is the entire MAC OSX Support...

much appreciation from the desert spaces where today there is snow in the mountains!
