[Fatal Error] :1:146: The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity r

Hi Im running Limewire 4.12.3 on mac os 10.4.5
java 1.5.0_06

I have a lot of incomplete downloads and they havent been downloading well or turning up in searches

I opened the CONSOLE LOG of mac osX and found loads of these warnings which I think are relating to limewire searches?

[Fatal Error] :1:146: The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference.

does anyone understand this FATAL ERROR and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks

I wonder if i need to update my java or if limewire is not making searches properly?

Make a note of all your LW settings. Then close LW & delete your LW preferences folder found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

I don't know the reason for the problem. There are some characters that can't be used to save a file in OSX that's all I know. But I don't think that's the issue. Hopefully it's only a corrupt prefs setting(s) that's the issue.

As far as incompletes go, yes I tend to collect large numbers also & not willing to let them go because they're all rare files. But just in case, have you seen this: Recognising fake files

BTW if your incompletes are more than 18 months old, then there's a high possibility LW won't be able to continue them due to the differences between LW now & back then. In which case you might want to consider this Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!
I did it recently but arranged my incomplete folder by date & got rid of the old ones. Actually some of the audio & video files were still playable so I've kept them for use but removed from incompletes folder.

great thanks for the tip

the oldest incomplete is from august

but

just before I delete the preferences folder Im wondering if this will also delete the partial imcomplete downloads I have already?

Ive a load of almost finished big files and I think I might jump off a tall building if they were all deleted or I had to start again!!

Lord of the Rings November 17th, 2006 01:51 PM

No. The downld prefs are stored in the incomplete folder & are called downld.dat & .bak so they're in a totally different location. ;) :)

Freddyzz2004 November 17th, 2006 02:07 PM

thanks - do you mean delete the whole folder containing 26 items?

I was expecting just to see a file called preferences in this folder

Lord of the Rings November 17th, 2006 02:12 PM

My prefs folder has 34 items in it but yes, that's the one. But only whilst LW is closed!!! To reiterate: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Freddyzz2004 November 17th, 2006 02:25 PM

just lost 4 gig of downloads because when you delete the prefs folder the pref for how long to keep files defaults to 7 days

so it has just deleted about 150 files that I had been downloading

no chance of getting them back now - gone for ever

I not happy

Freddyzz2004 November 17th, 2006 02:37 PM

ok correction

any files that were modified in the last 7 days were kept but I have lost at least 130 files and I have no way of knowing what those files were

they werent moved to the trash so that I could have an option of going backwards (ie being able to put them back into the incomplete folder and reload)

Im pretty pissed off I have to say

despite your 19,465 posts you didnt know that Limewire was going to do this ??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:-(

I not happy at all

Lord of the Rings November 17th, 2006 03:09 PM

Well the 7 day limit is default, but most people change it. Mine is set to 999 days & you should do something similar or change it to 9999 days.

Where is the location of your download folder? If it is in your prefs folder then that's silly. And if it's within your program folder then that's also silly, in case you should upgrade & reinstall over it.

I didn't know you'd suffer this issue because it's the 1st time I've heard of it. Everybody's system is set up differently. Some put their downloads into their program folder & then are surprised when they upgrade LW that their downloads are gone. I mean the default location is outside of this folder so ...

BTW have a look at all the Stickies in OSX lw section. Have a look here at the link for utility that backs up ... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=36378
