Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default Mac OS 10.4.9 - connection problems :(

hello,

i downloaded limewire onto my new mac and now i'm stuck behind a firewall. i read previous posts and tried deleting my preferences folder but that didn't work. i tried to manual port forward but i just ended up screwing up my internet settings.

if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated!

1. OS version? 10.4.9
2. What firewalls you have? None, except the standard one thats in system preferences
3. How much ram? Not sure
4. Hard Disk space available? Not sure again, but its a new computer
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Motorola SBG900
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? My home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 4.12.11 Limewire, 1.5.0 Java
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Bigpond
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It doesnt open that page at all
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Nope
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. I had limewire on my PC and that worked fine for a year or so and then i went overseas and came back and it didn't work anymore.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yep

EDIT: Just noticed that in my limewire my 'Listen on port' box doesn't have 6346 in it. Is it supposed to be like that? The number thats in it is 13011.

All your info looks normal, including the port.

I just tried the http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ and it worked, so try again. If it doesn't work again, you may be blocked by your ISP (which is outside of your machine). Call their help desk and ask if they allow connections to the gnutella network

The firewall indicator is always on until you get decent connections, so keep trying to connect.

btw, the RAM is listed in the Apple Menu->About this Mac box.

I'm having the same problems. I started using Limewire first yesterday evening, and at first it wouldn't connect, every search came up with nothing. Then I read the User Guide / FAQ about firewalls, so I followed the instructions and added a New item for Limewire, which was to allow UDP traffic etc on port 3252. After that, it all started working fine - the brick wall icon disappeared and I could start doing proper searches.

Tonight I have launched Limewire again, but it won't connect, I don't get anything. So I checked the System Prefs / Sharing /Firewall setting, and the port was still 3252, but the brick icon won't go away and I don't get any connection, and I can't do any searches. I even quit Limewire, reset the System Prefs, then relaunched LW - nada.

What's changed between last night and tonight, that Limewire won't work anymore? BTW I have the same settings as notanotherlovesong, except:
RAM = 1.5 GB, HD spce = 100 GB, OS X Firewall is ON (see above), router is Netgear DG834G, connection from home, ISP is tiscali, Java? (no idea, but it worked last night), This is my 2nd try at LW, first time was last night when I got it to work.

Help!

Stop posting all over the place! One post in the correct forum is enough

ok well i still can't get that url to work.

it must be a problem with my ISP or my router because i was able to connect to limewire just fine using my neighbours internet connection.

i took your advice and called bigponds so called 'help desk'

our conversation went a little like this

me "hi i was wondering if you could help me with p2p sharing"
ISP man "no"
me "is there anyone else who could help me?"
ISP man "not really, whats the problem"
me "i cant use p2p sharing"
ISP man "i cant help you"
me "can u tell me if bigpond blocks p2p sharing"
ISP man "i dont know"
me "so no one can help me fix it"
ISP man "you will have to get a computer technician to fix it"

end of conversation.

what to do!?

Bigpond don't block p2p. However of course like all Australian ISP's there's no unlimited download options, so if toward the end of the month you find your speed is slow as heck, you know you have gone over the limit & need to wait until the start of next month & refresh period when it's set back to zero.

Try shutting down your OSX firewall whilst LW is closed & then see if that helps. I just bought I new router & found the OSX firewall was clashing with the router's firmware. Different brand router to yours though. OH ... perhaps a reboot after closing down firewall may help though probably not necessary. ie: System Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall (tab).

I don't have Port forward instructions for your OSX for your device. But it should be similar to those here Port Forwarding for the Motorola SBG 900

For setting up a static ip in OSX, see World of Warcraft Community Site -> Support -> OSX Static ip

Remember after doing this to save your settings in your router (some brands or models also require rebooting router to get the change into action.) And even rebooting your mac might be a good idea too. Remember setting up static ip is the first thing you must do BEFORE port forwarding otherwise it won't work. So if have Port Forward rules set up whilst using a dynamic ip, cancel them & re-do them AFTER having set up static ip. Perhaps it will be safer for you to re-do this if you were unsure about your first attempt. Note: the static ip quoted in the windows instructions may be different to the mac one.

I have more thoughts about the connection problem.

1. Mac OS X can connect THROUGH your firewall - mine is permanently switched on, and there times I can connect and times when I can't. The brick wall you see does not necessarily mean it's YOUR firewall - it might be a block your ISP has set up, which limewire has detected. For example, right now I am connected to limewire aok, and there is no wall showing, even though my OS X firewall is switched on.
Last week I tried an experiment - I set up a user account called Limewire and logged out of all other accounts. While in Limewire, I used my admin details to turn the firewall off. I then deleted all the limewire preferences and relaunched. I had to go through the setup procedure and when i got through that, the brick wall was there in limewire even though all my firewalls were switched off.
QED - the brick wall icon shows things outside of your computer as well as inside.

2. Until the last 2 days, I could only connect during the daytime, Monday to Friday. I was blocked evenings, weekends, and even on the Bank Holiday! This can only mean ISP blocking (tiscali in my case, and yes, I have read all the posts here about tiscali). But for some unknown reason, the last 36 hours I have been able to connect to limewire continuously.

3. The way I figure it is - if you have followed all the advice here, and you still have a problem, you may find it is your ISP. If you can still connect during the day, well it's better than nothing. If you cannot connect at all, ever, you may need to think about changing your ISP.

As stated, Bigpond do NOT block or shape p2p programs. If you can't reach http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ it means something is blocking that port. It works fine for me. So what is blocking it? Most likely a firewall of some description. My guess is your modem/router's NAT firewall. Which is why I gave you port forwarding instructions.

BTW The Tid you dare edit out a Moderator's edit again & expect to be booted off the forum. I don't know of any other forum that would not do the same. You were shown the rules when you signed up. And were given the rules again but you wish to play a smart Azz. The forum rules are listed at the top of every section of this forum.

Default Problems connecting in OSX 10.4.9

Hi

I've got similar problems used to be able to use Limewire no problems, now can't get a connection. Using BT broadband through their home hub but should allow peer to peer. OSX firewall turned off but get the brickwall behind the globe. Any ideas?

Thanks

I turned off my firewall and rebooted but still nothing.

I clicked on the link you gave me for setting up a static IP and followed the instructions.

1. It says "select the adapter you use to connect to the internet (for most users, it will be the Built-in Ethernet adapter)... i selected airport because thats what i use.

2. My configure IPv4 field is set to Using DHCP. I wrote down my IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router but had nothing in the DNS Servers field.

3. I changed configure IPv4 to manually instead of Using DHCP and entered in the numbers i had written down.

i saved the settings and then my internet stopped working :S i put it back on using DHCP and it worked again. any clue what i should do? you've all been so helpful so far, i really appreciate it!

by the way, if those settings worked which one of those numbers would have been my static IP? IP adress right?
