Default uploading and shutting down puter

Hey all,
curious, i am watching about 15 uploads in various stages on the monitor. My arrows down at the bottom only say 5 uploads@20kb/s. so i'm a bit confused by that.

Next question, how is this slowing down my computer? I have a mega client download i'm expecting today to my drop box (mac0sx computer). Would shutting down limewire help speed the process or doesn't make much of a difference?

last question. I see all these uploads and feel bad that i need to turn the computer off, (ie. yesterday had to for lightening was just too close). what happens to those that are halfway downloaded? do they pick up on another host? Right now it seems a movie i downloaded is hot, and many are uploading it from my files. its 690mbs.. and i can feell the pain if i shut down and they are in the middle. or am i getting this process all wrong.

Others will answer your 1st 2 questions better than I--some of the "Sticky" posts in this forum can help you too, as can the user's manual--but in my experience heavy Limewire activity can slow down your puter. 'Course, it depends on how powerful your puter is, the speed of your connection, your Limewire Options settings, etc., to name just a few factors.

Note that quitting Limewire doesn't cancel your in-progress uploads unless you have selected "Shutdown Immediately" in your Options, or you disconnect from the internet, or you turn off your puter.

As for your kind concern for the suffering of others when you shut down, don't worry, it happens *all the time*!. It's OK, you gotta do what you gotta do. And yes, when you shut down, downloads are continued from other hosts, if there are any who happen to be online and sharing the same file at the same time. Also, if a download does happen to quit due to a host going offline, it can be picked up again later where it left off, from any host who is sharing the same file.

Hey Thanks for the response. i'm just learning all this stuff. I just found where you can review the file before downloading. great help since i downloaded something and it was in french 700mbs.

Still curious on the first question.

I do notice alot of times my software programs seem to slow down and get weird, so at times i must close out and restart, and that makes it all back to normal. it only recently dawned on me that it could be the limewire. (sometimes clients using my dropbox).

thanks again!

When anybody chooses to download a file, the first thing they do is download the file's Hash. That should only take a second or few. So what you are seeing are people downloading the hash & probably waiting in queue after that. The rest (other 5) are actually downloading the file.

To reduce drag that LW causes, there's a few things you can try.

Go to LW's prefs>Speed & tick disable Ultrapeer Cap. & press apply button.
Set both uplds & downlds to autoclear.
Close all LW windows you don't need open at that time.
If you're not in front of your comp, then hide LW in the dock.
Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link)
