Limewire brick wall problems on Mac OSX

Hi,

I am new to LW and I don't know what I am doing. I have been reading through the threads and I am even more confused. I have a Mac G4 and I have wireless broadband. I contacted the broadband company and they stressted they do not have any blocks/firewalls. When I go into Sharing/Firewall is states my firewall in off. It is when I read about ports and UPnP that is when I get completely confused.

I have been trying to sort this problem with 2 days and still no luck. Any help would be appreciated. I have provided my info below.

1. OS version? Mac OS X Tiger v10.4.10
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram? 256 MB (I am not sure where to find this)
4. Hard Disk space available? 30GB
5. Connection type? Wireless broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? I do not have a router box, I have a wire coming from a satalite dish on the roof into my ethernet connection on my computer.
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? Home
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.12.11 & Java 1.5.0_07

9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? AHC Networks (powered by Azotel)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It says your test worked.
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st time user
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

Can't connect (OSX 10.4.10)

You Are Not Alone

 I have also been trying to break my firewall (also 4 days) to allow uploads, and find the threads and port discussions not easy to follow. I have about 40 pages of printouts. and still haven't succeeded - yet. It is driving me . In my sys prefs>sharing>firewall>LW>TCP/UDP the port No is 6346. In LW>Prefs>Advanced>Firewall config the listening and manual port forward No is 46964. Not sure if they should all be the same? Still trying to work it out.
Will persevere. Assume you have www.portfoward.com/help/portfowarding.htm
Another thread which may help is Gnutella Forums>Gnutella News and Gnutelliums Forums>Tips&Tricks>Firewall & Port Setting - Some Useful Links.
Still hard to follow though as terms such as static ip, your computer's ip and just ip addresses are seemingly used interchangeably.
Anyway, Good Luck :)
PS: Are you able to d/l? I still can even with the wall.

Thanks Roimay.

I have the firewall on my Mac completely turned off and I left Limewire listen port as is at 27459. I don't know the 1st thing about portforwarding. I cannot download from LW, when I enter a search it is blank - I only have 1 small bar at the bottom of page and a brick wall. It is not responding at all.

Is LW free to all for downloading - I paid netmoviedownloads.com to subscribe and this is what I got, a big fat nothing as I cannont d/l. I think I was scammed!

Thanks for trying.

Don't Give Up

You will need someone more experienced and savvy than me to help. :Smilywais:
Once working and Understood LW is a good site for D/L.
Cannot help either re Scam or not. I got LW from LW site where, yes, it is free to d/l and d/ls from searches are free. Once I get experienced I will upgrade to LW Pro.
Maybe you have to Trash and start again? But the bar at bottom, isn't that signal strength? If you only have one bar maybe the signal is too weak to d/l?
I expect there is a thread for that if you can find it. Again you need a response from someone who Knows.
Your connection is different to mine as you have satelite where I have router via phone line. Again Good Luck. :)

Try this thread. It will lead to others as well.

I often hear of problems with satellite connections. Whilst you may be able to download, it's very difficult to upload. Most Satellite companies limit upload abilities. How they do it is the question. And that's what might be affecting LW from connecting.

Can you be more specific about your Modem & router brand & models.
Also, try disabling your OSX firewall. Go to System Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall & disable.
