Question leopard, 10.5.2 - whenever I start limewire it opens then shuts down after 5 secs ???

I just bought my new iMac, I'm running the latest version of leopard, 10.5.2 and whenever I try to start limewire it opens then shuts down after about 5 seconds, is there any way that this problem can be solved, also I only have the basic version of Limewire. thanks for any help anyone can give.

I have this problem too, i had version 10.5.1 and every thing worked fine but when i upgraded to 10.5.2 it shuts down after a few seconds... i have tried deleting and re-downloading the newest limewire and older version, but nothing seems to work...I would be very glad if someone could find a solution to this.

Try using Software Update in the Apple Menu to make sure all updates are installed. The crash you describe usually indicates some Java piece is missing from the OS X system.

Could also consider the offline Combo update package; Apple - Downloads - Mac OS X - Mac OS X Updates

I had to reinstall my Leopard a couple of days ago (archive install), after just purchasing the computer just over a week ago. System is running better now. Offline updates are safer/more reliable than online updates such as thru Software Update.

* After doing any system updates or installations, it is highly recommended to do a safe boot and repair permissions. Then reboot normally. SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions

I have also had this problem

I'm running an Intel Duo Core MacBook with MacOS X Leopard 10.5.2, and the free version of LimeWire

When I start up LimeWire I am able to say 'Why', 'Later', or 'Yes' to the pro upgrading alert, however after that there is always a pause and LimeWire quits 'unexpectedly'.

After checking the console for the error report, I found the following messages:

[0x0-0x12012].com.limegroup.gnutella[126] Invalid memory access of location 00000000 eip=005b6dd8
com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x12012].com.limegroup.gnutella[126]) Exited abnormally: Bus error

So it's saying something about an 'invalid memory access of location' and a 'bus error'. I know all about busses but have yet to find out how to fix bus-related errors. I tried looking for system updates, but found nothing to do with Java. I tried going to the terminal and typing in 'java -version' as I have been told if it replies with an error message then Java is the problem. However I get:

java version "1.5.0_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)

So my Java version, I'm assuming, is also fine.

Lastly, one of the system updated things after restarting was my firmware. I was about to perform the update but was told I must be connected to power first, and I cannot do that at present. So aside from the firmware update fixing the problem, I cannot see any other way around this. Any help would be much obliged

EDIT 1: I am now trying to fix the problem by downloading the Mac 10.5.2 combo package, as per Lord of the Rings' suggestion

When I read the first part of your error, my initial thought was firmware driver issue.

Ok, I will try updating the firmware today, and if that doesn't work I'll install the combo pack I've downloaded for 10.5.2

Updating the firmware works!

Ok, so here's officially how to fix this problem:
  1. Go to System Preferences (should be on the dock but if it's not, go; Finder > Macintosh HD [or whatever your Hard Drive is called] > Applications > System preferences)
  2. In the 'System' part of the window, go to 'Software Update' (the two blue arrows going around the .mac logo)
  3. Click 'Check Now'
  4. After it has checked, a list of downloadable updates will appear. Click 'Install'
  5. After the items have installed, the update will ask you to restart your Mac - do it
  6. After rebooting, a window should pop-up alerting you of an available Firmware Update you have downloaded. If not, click the magnifying glass at the top right of your screen (on your toolbar) type in 'Built-in Keyboard Firmware Update'
  7. (Your Mac must be connected to a power source for this step) Install the update - it should take under a minute
  8. Load up LimeWire

LimeWire should now run

If it is a java problem (most likely), no version of LW or any app dependent on java, like Phex, will run.

The Console (in your Applications/Utilities folder) will display more details about the problem.

In case there is an easy fix, did you do the Safe Boot? Restart and hold down the shift key, then restart normally.
