Opening Downloaded Programs

I am having trouble opening downloaded programs. I read another post and went in and deleted the LW preference folder and saved it in a different file name, but I still can't seem to figure it out. This is my first time using LW on a Mac.
Now when I try to open the file it says unarchiving but it seems frozen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure they are actual Mac programs & not those for windows.

You should NOT try to unarchive a file via launching it through LW otherwise it may cause such problems as you are having. Instead, go to the LW download folder & do it from there.

Thanks LOR, You are very well versed in MAC issues. I have followed your advice from some other threads trying to remedy this problem. I did a search again with .dmg on the end so I'll see how that goes. Thank you for your time in answering me and all the others who have posted because you have created a great data base for us MAC users
