iTunes gone to the pits, dump it .. and never buy anything owned by Apple / Macintosh

It seems not only has iTunes dropped compatibility with sharing libraries with p2p programs. The program has now gone commercial meaning if you wish it to do what you want it to do, you need to pay money to their subscriber service or buy from the iTunes online site.

Recently added CD's don't always show in the library, only way to find them is in the 'Recently Added' playlist despite all id3 info & iTunes appropriate info has been added. More 'poor' programming obviously. The program doesn't seem to know left from right any more.

In recent years their iTunes program became buggy, losing id3 tags, losing basic file information as well resulting in changes of file names. pfft. Hopeless programming !

My advice is to dump iTunes & find alternatives. Apple's attitude is bizarre.

I get the impression Apple have become greedier than Microsoft. It is all about 'money' that dangerous word that makes African's die every day from starvation and makes people who work for microsoft or apple get filthy rich. pfft ... sorry but I am greatly disappointed by apple's new attitude. I have been using apple equipment for past 16 years. I guess I will be looking elsewhere now for new computers. Their greed has got the better of me!

I reckon it does some of the things I want for free so I'll keep it. I do concur with your comments on corporate greed though. I figure taking as much as you can get for something is a dirty trick. It's a kind of theft! A fair price. I don't agree with royalties, licenses, patents etc. If you get copied, it's a compliment! It's not all about money, you are right!

Thanks for the similar understanding in part. :)

iTunes gone to the pits etc.

.All I can say is, with your attitude you deserve Microsoft. iTunes is the best software for music available anywhere, and at the most reasonable cost. If you forget to import your CD's, that is your problem, do not blame Apple.
Once you get on to Microsoft you will realise the error of your ways. Good luck.

I still use iTunes. But .. with the experience of losing over 100 GB of music .. many years of collection .. how .. because iTunes was 'buggy'. I suspect their devs were caring too much for developing their online services where they make money, not for the free use of iTunes & maintaining large libraries. And as I'd mentioned earlier, iTunes introduced certain issues across versions from v. 5-7. Sure iTunes has improved its conversion, however their abilities in that regard have dipped greatly over the years ... in part due to Quicktime which iTunes uses for its conversion library. I do like the VBR encoding abilities added over past 12 months or so. iTunes reliance on QuickTime's libraries will no doubt risk itself into future problems also. Quicktime has often been buggy over its history .. each release needing to await feedback to its issues before updating. How do I know? I work on a mac with video encoding .. and quicktime plays a part.

As far as alternatives go; I'm not sure of any other mac audio program that keeps its own library in the same way. Sure lots of decent mac audio programs that can utilise playlists. What's more, the newer and not so newer mac audio programs can play almost every audio format you could think you'd need a player or converter for. Whereas iTunes is limited to mp3 (cannot play mp3pro), mp4audio/m4a .... , aiff, wav, apple lossless, and a few other limited formats not many people using p2p would use. Alternate Audio Players & support plug-ins. At least with using plug-ins, etc. it is possible to play ogg vorbis or flac files on mac, or wma via conversion.

If you were smart and valued your iTunes library, you should have backed it up. Certainly, if you thought iTunes was buggy, then there is no doubt that if you valued your library, as you appear to indicate now, you should have backed it up. John

I wouldn't Pi$$ on Itunes if it was on fire. Guess being a Mac user, the choices are limited. :)

John must work for the Money Hungry, Blood Sucking, Greedy Ba$tards of Apple. :wasntme:

And if you Really think iTunes is the "Best Software for Music Available Anywhere", Just wonder what cave you've been living in.

I've NEVER used Itunes and NEVER will, and I've been getting along just fine. :)

I'm sure the way LOTR found the bug was by the loss of the library...I wonder if a data recovery program would have found most of the files..

and what does iTunes care, they probably figure if you loose your whole library you will buy it again...the probelms with iProducts are widespread and damn near criminal...I guess I should consider myself lucky as I've got a proven track record of killing Apple products just by being near them hence I have never bought any, and after many of the things I've heard about them I never will

First I do not have any connection whatsoever to Apple - I am retired, so use the computer strictly for pleasure, and iTunes in particular serves my purpose without any hassle. I would be very interested though in which software you consider to be superior to iTunes? John
