I was able to install but when I go to launch, it says Limewire requires Java1.6 and I have 1.5. I cannot find 1.6 for Mac. Help anyone?
Thanks. |

Use the GO menu & choose Utilities. Find Java folder & open Java preferences. If it does not list Java 1.6 then your computer is not compatible to run LW 5. You also need to be running OSX 10.5 Leopard. Setting up Java for Leopard.
If you cannot use Java 1.6, then as suggested by mustang guy, use the LW 4.18.8, http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...0-5-later.html * If you are running Leopard and you see Java 1.6 listed in Java preferences, then move it up to top of the list if you wish to use LW 5. ![]() Apple only made their Java 1.6 in 64-bit. Not 32-bit. It is common practice for Apple to stop developing java for particular OSX versions & in this case types of mac computers also. And hey, you're not missing much by not being able to use LW 5 if that's your case. It is really only in beta mode at moment despite they decided to release it as a full version. It is lacking many tools compared to LW 4. And many users find it difficult to navigate the program. Many new & experienced users of both mac & windows LW have been reverting back to LW 4.

Hi gang, great posts and suggestions!
One I haven't seen anyone mention is what happens to me. I have gone to my Mac's Library, removed the Receipts, et al, downloaded again and now get this: "Limewire has encountered a fatal internal error and will now exit. This is generally caused by a corrupted installation. Please try downloading and installing Limewire again." Been there, done that and it still does this each time, whether it's LW 5 or going back to LW 4 (with the clean up steps each time). I am, of course, downloading from Limewire's site. In addition, I had 4.18 running just fine for a long time and then it went thpppt (sorry for the technical term). Any suggestions on this? Thanks! |

Hope install limewire.pkg is the only receipt file you removed.
![]() (a) Repair permissions SAFE Boot & Repair Permissions. (b) Delete this folder: Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX If still no good; Send me a personal message, I'll send you a 4.16 version, see if that helps.
